The Characters Mod is decently simple. Log into the Character Tab in your User Profile Settings. From here you can setup a character by entering the Character's name, a URL to their Avatar and their signature. Click submit and you have setup a character account. The only thing required here is to enter a Character Name.
Once you have a character setup you can choose them from the drop down in the Add Reply page.
