Khaelys looked over at her, and kissed her again. "I think my romanticism far outweighs my 'landing skills'" Khaelys said with a smile.

Khaelys looked out from the rooftop, and saw Klyde and... What was the term Klyde used? Gremlin? She was prettier than he had imagined. Something about the term "Gremlin" didn't conjure images of beauty.

"Wait here Zincell. I'll be right back." And, before she could reply, Khaelys shot off into the mist.

Khaelys shot through the air, with a far too pretty, far too light girl in his arms. Good Hearing? Bah! They crested over a rooftop, and Khaelys had to push on nails to prevent them from crashing into the building. He let go of Zincell, and smiled. "Now that wasn't so bad, was it?"

"Oh, I was talking about stuff that I actually cared about..." Khaelys said with a huge grin. "I doubt Klyde has had a woman in decades."

Khaelys looked up to the nearest rooftop. It was just misty enough to...

"Hey Zincell. Hold on!" And with that Khaelys dropped a coin and started burning steel.

Khaelys threw his arms around the girl as his heart fluttered. Lord Ruler! What have I done now?! He then realized that this was his first kiss... His first anything, since Vidette. Perhaps I am over her.

Khaelys pulled back, but still held on to Zincell. "What on earth is Klyde going to think of us now?"

Is this really happening? Am I kissing a girl? Am I kissing a girl who just was about to rip my toes off not 30 seconds ago?

Khaelys though to himself and pictured Klyde laughing at him from afar. How foolish must he be? He had known this girl for maybe an hour. And he was kissing her.

Not just that. She was kissing him back!

Khaelys pulled away, just realizing how embarrassing this was for both of them. With his face still red, he gave a weak smile and, without so much as a pinch of sincerity, "Sorry".

Khaelys. You, my friend, are a moron. But he didn't pull back. "No problem" he said with a crooked smile. "In fact, I might even venture to say further than that."

And then, he kissed her.

Khaelys let the single tear dry on his cheek. He looked deep into her eyes, as he had done almost profusely during their conversation. He only saw confidence. Perhaps she could survive Luthadel.

He blushed, but did not move. "Maybe you can take it. But I'm not taking back my compliment. You are still very pretty."

"You could have been lying? Hon, you saw me cry! If you responded in any way except with the truth, you are one soulless person. You think you know what this city is?! Just because you saw some skaa being killed, you think you know Luthadel? What if it was your mother? Or your father? Or your twin? And I am a lucky one. This city knows no love. It has done nothing but scar and corrupt. Everything beautiful, everything pure, is gutted and hung as a reminder that we can show no compassion"

Khaelys looked into her eyes, and realized he was just inches away from her. "I.... I just don't want to see you die like the rest of us.."

A tear fell from his cheek.

"Is it worth it?" Khaelys asked, with complete seriousness. "The killing? The genocide? The lies? People here don't need an excuse to kill. They will do it for no reason! You say you have good hearing. Do you know how many Tineyes get killed, just for hearing something that they shouldn't have?

"Haven't you seen it yet? People in this city are evil. Even Klyde. Even me. Especially me. There is no good here. Only death. Can't you see it?"

Khaelys looked in her eyes, and said with complete seriousness "You are too good for this city. Too beautiful"

Khaelys looked at the girl. She was quite pretty. He looked into her eyes. He was tempted. Very Tempted. Even enough to consider...

No! What are you thinking?! You can't keep doing this to yourself! You know where it ends. Yet, even as he told himself this, he wanted her more. But, he could not be loved. Vidette had made that abundantly clear. Besides. What would a girl as beautiful as that, want with a guy like him?

He wanted warn her. Tell her to get away from the Underworld. To get away from Lutadel. Away from him. People had an annoying habit of dying around Khaelys. Especially women. Like Vidette.

"Why did you come to Luthadel, Zincell?"

"Oh well! Would you look at that sky! Beautiful, isn't it? Unseasonably mild." Khaelys added sarcastically. It was going to kill him to not know what the "secret power" was. But he had other metals to burn.

Whatever Zincell is, she is different. She has... something. Something new.

"How long has he been in there? They must be almost finished by now. Lets just hope he isn't dead."

"Oh no! That would have been mundane, normal, or proper. I will have none of that!" He added with a grin."And we would never hear the end from Klyde if we talked without him."

Khaelys smiled again. "So, tell me about these abilities. If you want, of course. Otherwise... Lovely weather we're having!"

Khaelys laughed as he wiped the tears from his eyes. "Im sorry." He said, sincerely for once. "I didn't know." Breeding people like horses? How was it that he hadn't heard of this before. Perhaps there was a reason for the Terris people to be so secretive.

And then it hit him. His lack of sleep, his exerting himself, and his almost constant burn of steel. He was exhausted. When was the last time I found a bed?

"So, if you don't mind me asking, how did you hear them? If you're not a tineye, how..."

#2956520 Gremlin Hunt

Posted by Khaelys on 16 January 2012 - 12:59 AM in Skaa Slums

Khaelys looked up "What? Of course there are. And what do you mean, different?"

Khaelys laughed internally. Khaelys, you my friend, are an imbecile. You talk to a girl that you have known a total of 5 minutes, and you get her to admit her deepest, darkest secret, and you tell her yours. Moron

Khaelys smiled "Now that's more like it." He caught a flash of fear on her face. "Oh! Don't worry! Your safe with me." He gave her the most convincing look he could, and then smiled. "Although, I never have heard of a Terris misting before."

Khaelys couldn't help but feel guilty. This was probably the girl's darkest secret. Yet he still coerced it out of her. Again. Tact

"I found out about mine when I was 4. My father was a hazekiller for a particularly wealthy house. My mum was skaa. Noble's don't like their men dallying with..." Khaelys paused for a second. "Well anyway, Lekal came one day for her. My dad tried to negotiate. Said she would be more useful in a brothel than in a grave. Lekal killed her anyway."

A tear fell down Khaelys' cheek.

Khaelys smiled, though she was obviously trying to hide something. Types of wood? That was too mundane to list as a "skill". No. She definitely was hiding something. Allomancy perhaps?

"While I could remain unseen and listen in to their conversation, I promised Klyde that I wouldn't spy in on them. And I am definately not a tineye." He looked into her eyes. Stunning.

Against his will, he averted his gaze. Stupid

"What do you think they are talking about?"

Khaelys smiled. "Wow, what a wonderful way of acting like your talking and saying absolutely nothing about yourself" He smiled even wider.

Damn! What was it that made him so... vulnerable around women. So trusting. So weak.

"Well, I guess I'll start then. As you probably have guessed, I am a Coinshot. Im good with knives." Khaelys flipped out a knife, and put it away. "I am also a good scout, and a great cook. And besides my love of dramatic entrances, and my obvious good looks, thats pretty much it!"

"Oh, shouldn't be too hard to come by." Khaelys said with a smile. "Of course, we could probably just look on the street. Probably a dead steward somewhere."

Khaelys blushed. Dead on the street? I am known for a lot of things, but tact obviously isn't one of them

Khaelys looked in the Klyde's direction "Well, at any rate, the underworld isn't known for dead weight. So that begs the question. What can you do?" Khaelys looked at her and winked again. Winked?! What am I? A noble boy at his first ball?

Khaelys thought for a second. If she had met a Lekal, there was a chance ... Khaelys would keep an eye on her. Just in case.

"So, Zincell. Terris huh?" Khaelys chuckled. "When I first heard you, I thought you were an inquisitor. All that metal on you? I had counted myself dead. Betrayed by Klyde." Khaelys had vowed to trust Klyde. However, Khaelys knew when the time came, he would be betrayed. Everyone was betrayed in time.

"Well, Its good to have a terriswoman." Khaelys dropped softly to the ground beside Zincell with a smile. "Nobles all trust you." Khaelys looked at her for a second, and smiled even wider. "You'll be useful" he said with a wink.

Oh! Pretty and a sharp tongue If Khaelys was in any other situation, he would have been smitten. However, he knew love couln't last. Not in this world anyway. He knew he was in no position for love. He had to learn that years ago. The underground did that to you.

"Ha. Well, besides the weather and the latest noble garb, both of which Klyde is so fond of talking about, we didn't talk about much. We talked about Lekal and how he was the boss. But what about you? Where did Lekal find you in this hell hole we call Luthadel?"

Khaelys lowered himself in the mists. He stared down at the outline of the girl beneath him. She was quite pretty. Exceptionally, some might say. Its a wonder that she isn't in a whorehouse right now. Khaelys despised the places. All the disease and sadness. Often he felt that it was his duty to destroy them. Some other time perhaps.

He fell lower into the mists. He could just make out the face of the girl. Very pretty.

"You know," Khaelys whispered, barely audible, "that Klyde is a strange fellow. Some call him a drunk. Some say he is a liar. Some say he is brilliant. I am not sure what to make of him just yet. I'm Khaelys by the way."

Zincell her name was. A funny name. Probably Terris.

"Well, I will save that for later then." Khaelys pulled out a vial of metals. "But just in case..."

Khaelys downed the metals. He felt at his reserves, just to see if it was all there. A bad habit of his. "I'll follow you. Talk loud so I can see you. If you need me, Ill be right over your head."

And with that, Khaelys dropped a coin, and shot off into the mists.

Khaelys stood outside, far more angry than he should have been. Why do I get like this? Im not an adolescent noble girl. I'm better than this.
Klyde didn't trust Khaelys. That much was obvious. I need to realize that not every crew is like Daulin's. Not everyone is as trusting as him But where did he end up? Dead in the gutter just like everyone else. Perhaps it was a better to be distrustful. It seemed to make one live longer.

"Klyde, how good is this Cassi at seeing things?" Khaelys had an idea.

Khaelys frowned. This is a team, Khaelys. You need to know how to lay low, and not have to do everything. However, relying upon someone else always got his ire up. So he stood up and said "I guess you're right. Well, if we're leaving, lets go." Khaelys dropped a couple of coins on the table. The last of his. Klyde had come just in time. Otherwise, Khaelys would have had to kill another human being, for the metal in their purse.

Khaelys burst out of the door before his... friend had even gotten up. He needed fresh air. Or, perhaps it was the mists. They invited him, clothed him, and housed him. He belonged in the mists. He sat outside and waited for Klyde to come out of the building.

While Khaelys' face remained stern, he smiled on the inside. But while it was true that he shouldn't make Klyde angry, he underestimated him. Khaelys saw people, he could find what made him tick. Being a felon did that to you. However, being attacked by the person who you were analyzing tended to be a side effect. So, Khaelys let it drop.

He needed to get back to buisness. Talking to Cassi had to be his first priority. "So... when are we meeting this Cassi?"
