Skaa half-breeds are being taught the power of Allomancy, something that the Lord Ruler's obligators said only existed in the nobility. The enslaved skaa, with their murderous benefactor, now fight back against a living god's oppression.

So, the Inquisition was formed. The nobles begin to fear assassination from all sides. The times of nobility Mistborn killing each other are over. The Steel Inquisitors look for aristocrat traitors and insurgent skaa, and the skaa try with all their strength to merely survive. #2590412 Interrogation

Posted by Cantos Orlan on 01 August 2010 - 06:25 PM in Lan's Shop

Cantos bowed to the Inquisitor, "No mi'lord. I shall diligently practice what you have taught me. Where else should I be at this moment in time? I would like to meet more members of the Rebellion."

Cantos considered: "You mention that there are two more metals but that doesn't make sense." He pauses. "There are four physical metals from my understanding, both from what we've gone over here and what I've studied. There are also four mental metals. Two groups of two each. There should be another group of four, made of two groups of two, of which Gold is one. Do you know what those metals are?"

He pauses trying to figure it out himself.

Cantos paused for a moment, before taking the gold dust in his hand. Mixing it with some water, he swallowed it. As it sat in his stomach, he began to stoke its flame, and let out a startled gasp: a duplicate of him stood nearby, ash stained, face angry and bitter, clothing shredded and old. He described what he saw in close and stopping gasps. With a shudder, he extinguished the metal. "What was that?"

Cantos quickly extinguished his metals, letting the influence go. He winced slightly and apologized. He turned his mind to the other metal and just began to burn it. "Brass. Soother." He murmured. Ne did nothing with the metal, just burned it. "You say two more, but which two? I have burned them all? Is this gold and its alloy?"

Cantos turned again inward, listening to the words of the Inquisitor, knowing there was truth there. His Alisa did live on, as if her soul had been taken from her body and transfered into his allomancy. His pewter seemed to beat with the waves they had both fallen in love with, her voice a whispered cadence in tune with the burning and flaring of the powerful metal.

Cantos ceased to burn the metal with a whispered good bye. He turned instead, with a ragged gasp, to the next, and final, two he had available. He burned the first, and felt that it was a pulling metal. He reached instinctively through the metal, and touched on the mind of the Inquisitor, not knowing exactly what he was doing, he pulled on his mind. "What is this?" He murmured out loud, knowing the Inquisitor should feel what he was doing.

Cantos started, "Her name was Alisa." He paused as he remembered her face, his body burning pewter, agile and strong, the weapon of his revenge. Though their was pain, their was also anger.

As his anger began to mount, his pewter began to flare. He could feel strength and power flowing through his bones and muscles. In a whisper, "And when I find the man responsible for leaving her to die.... I will kill him." He looks straight at the Inquisitor, his blood pounding, his enhanced strength a clarion trumpet call to action against his enemy.

Quickly extinguishing Tin, Cantos turned inward to contemplate which metal he would burn next. He choose pewter, as he had burned it before and knew more about it. As his body grew powerful he smiled, "Pewter. Sister to Tin, and one that enhances healing and strength. I used this metal to heal under the care of my Skaa Hazekillers." His expression falls a bit, the memory of his healing coming with the memory of his lost wife.

Cantos smiled and eagerly dove back into his metals. He paused for a moment and considered. He had looked at Iron and Steel, and had spoken briefly on them. Their power shone in his body, and he eagerly wanted to burn them again. But others remained. He had done Copper and Bronze, and was starting to understand their importance. Copper still burned in his body, and he eagerly kept Bronze alive as well, though he frowned at the mention of the lady. What was this? Some kind of religious underpinning? He was confused, but set it aside for now.

So that left four, yet the Inquisitor had mentioned five. He examined them. One he thought he knew, the metal that had kept him alive, and if his knowledge was correct, Pewter. He examined the quietly pulsing metal beside it and brought it to life.

Cantos staggered. The room was bright, brighter then the brightest day. His clothing felt rough and hard against his skin, each fiber an intense needle. Smells he had no name for assaulted his nostrils.

He struggled for control, fighting hard and then dampening, but still burning the metal. He looked straight at the Inquisitor, his eyes seeing more then ever before, "I see, feel, and hear everything." He whispered, but his voice came out as loudly as if he was announcing orders to his Skaa Hazekillers back home.

He focused on the Gold. "What is the fifth metal? And what is its pair? And beyond that, what turns the pair into a group of four?' The side tracking of his thoughts helped him to stay focused on his training, and not loose himself in new sensations.

With nothing more then an instinctual burn, Cantos began to burn the metal and was overwhelmed with a sudden sensation of pulses and beats. "I feel..." He looked directly at the Inquisitor, "You. I feel you. Pulsing. And also others near and far." He frowned as he focused on these new sensations. "Something seems different however. Some pulses have a different touch to them then others."

Cantos turned his attention inward and began searching through the metals, finding the one he was burning, and quickly identifying its partner. He spoke, "I fount it, but I have not started to burn it yet." He pauses "What will it do?"

Cantos nodded and extinguished his steel. He glances at the Inquisitor and notices how the man relaxes while listening to his music. He turns his attention inward and picks a new metal, one that doesn't feel familiar, and begins to burn it. He feels nothing however. He frowns, "I choose a new metal. I feel nothing, and see nothing. I know it is not Iron, Steel, or Pewter, nor is it the metal that is paired with Pewter. Do you sense anything?"

Cantos nodded as he listened to the Inquisitor's words. He extinguished the iron and searched inside of him. Eight metals were there, each a distinct power source. Each had its own pulse and four seemed to be paired with another four. He identified the one similar to Iron, and began to burn Steel. Again, blue lines filled the room. "I am now burning Steel, and blue lines are again filling the room. Is this the power that grants Coinshots their name?"

Cantos nodded and began, "Iron pulls. It is why Iron burning Mistings are called Lurchers, as they can grab Pushed coins and Pull them towards themselves. Lurchers usually use heavy wooden shields to protect Pewterarms and others in a Misting team." He pauses. "Iron can be used to propel oneself as well, such as when I used my iron to pull myself along the floor.

"When I fought an Obligator using Iron, he was able to Pull armored soldiers in front of himself. It seemed to connect them as a weight and counterweight on a rope."

#2568284 Interrogation

Cantos nodded and concentrated. He noticed that their was a difference in the sensations, as if each was an individual fire at an individual temperature. He noted one that seemed most familiar and lightly touched it, sending blue lines radiating out from him. Each seemed to connect to some kind of metal source. He nodded. "Iron." He murmured, "I am burning iron."

Immediately stopped.

"Your first lesson is one of attitude. Burn one. You will learn them one at a time. You will take what you are given, you will learn what you are taught.

"You must learn patience if you are to make a difference. Common animals are controlled by their impulses. You must master yours.

"The rebellion has no need and no use of animals who cannot control themselves."

Cantos nodded at these words, but did not burn any metals. "Which metal should I burn? I await your instructions."

He holds himself perfectly still, waiting with patience for instruction from the steel inquisitor. He would learn his first lesson well, it wasn't that different from being a haze killer. As one, he had to be patient, and wait carefully as Mistings played a careful game of give and take.

Cantos stood on his toes, his posture loose, yet ready. He burned no metals, but he felt them inside, power sources radiating warmth and comfort.

He breathed in, and waited.

#2564762 Interrogation

Posted by Cantos Orlan on 18 July 2010 - 12:22 AM in Lan's Shop

((OOC: First, my appologies. I've been out of it on meds for my back! Drunk as crazy).

Cantos catches the vial and stares at it, then at the Inquisitor. He is concerned, but alive. He knows he shouldn't be alive, and knows that he could have been easily killed while unconcious. He hesitated long enough, concern warring with desire. Desire won.

With one swift motion, Cantos lifted the vial to his lips and downed the scratchy liquid, feeling fires burn to life in his stomach, more then he ever knew existed.

"What now?" he whispers, overwhelmed with the feeling.

#2556860 Interrogation

Cantos pauses for a moment before responding. "I have no idea if you want me. I'm hot headed, and though well trained as a Haze Killer, I have no training as an Allomancer."

He struggled to his feet, his shield and dueling cane were held limply as he considers. "I am willing to pledge my skills to the rebellion, but I believe I would be better able to assist if I had more training. I have burned iron, some pewter, and some tin. Though I have only used iron in real amounts."

#2555900 Interrogation

Posted by Cantos Orlan on 13 July 2010 - 05:12 AM in Lan's Shop

((OOC: I wasn't sure how to respond to this for a bit :) ))

Cantos stared at the new comer, obvious shock and confusion on his face. He seems confused, and a little lost. Obviously, with the blow to his head, the introduction of TWO rebels from the Lord Ruler's own ministry, and word of a powerful Skaa Rebellion, he just does not know what to say or do.

In a soft whisper, his body deflated of anger and resentment, even the courage he had, his voice barely is able to come out: "Who are you?!"

Cantos knows what was said to him must be true. He is still alive, he is still breathing, and even though he gave a damning speech, an Inquisitor sits and says nothing. But, his mind cannot grasp what has happened to him. Even thoughts of revenge are no longer in his head.

#2553697 Interrogation

Posted by Cantos Orlan on 12 July 2010 - 06:19 AM in Lan's Shop

Cantos pauses, considering his options, and decides that if he must die, then he shall do so honestly and with pride. "You ask after my story?" He pauses. "Then you shall have it."

He settles against the wall, well aware of the pain his body was in. "I was born in the Southern Dominance. Against the coast itself, my birth was marked by celebration in my family, for births among the nobles are rare as you know. I grew up with a Skaa nurse, and my first friends were the Skaa servants. We were not wealthy, nor powerful. Our family were minor supporters of the Lord Ruler at the time of the Ascension, and were never given more then a cursory nod of membership to the nobility." He pauses for breath, his side and head aching.

"By the time I was 12, I understood the deadly truth about noble politics, and the troubles of the Skaa. I never understood why the Skaa feared going to market on behalf of the family, or why they lived on the grounds in poor mud huts. Even our fisherman, once the source of our family income, seemed to not benefit greatly from their presence on our staff."

He pauses again, his face troubled by what comes next. "My father never sought to beat the Skaa, or trample them. Some used to sign quietly at night, which I later learned were songs of worship for ancient Gods. I had met a noblewoman by this point, a young lass named Maria. She would become my wife. We listened to the music, and she learned to play it. When we were married at 18, the Skaa celebrated, and gifted her with a necklace of sea shells, a traditional wedding gift in their long lost religion. The singing would be what caused the trouble.

One day, in the markets of town, one of the Skaa was caught whistling the tune. She was a simple girl, more then other Skaa, and was a true innocent. An Obligator Coinshot was dispatched to the hovels, and began to kill Skaa indiscriminately. My father protested, demanding to know for what reason this was occurring, and the man turned and killed him without any remorse. I, and my wife, witnessed the entire event."

He sighs, closing his eyes, the anger evident in his body, pulse racing, breath hard and fast, face pale and white. Pure adrenaline rushes through his veins, erasing the pain in his head and body. If he had the means he might even attack. Instead he speaks, his voice quiets, his once overt anger replaced by a quieter burning pain, covering a determination of steel. "With no Skaa, and no fish, I had nothing. I sold off the home to another Noble, and moved into the city proper, and began training in earnest. I sold my skills in dueling and warfare to other Nobles, friends at first, then more. I trained in the skills of the bodyguard: staff and dueling cane, sword and shield. Then I sought out Haze Killers, and trained with them. Then I turned around and brought Skaa soldiers into my simple home, and turned them into teams of haze killers. By training these men, I sought to create the weapons that would kill the very power that stole my father's life."

He stared directly at the Inquisitor. "Powers such as you have."

Leaning his back against the wall, Cantos continued his story. "I can skip most of the jobs if you don't mind. The one that concerns you is the last one I was on. The one that brought me here. A man without a name, a Noble in disguise." He taps the floor lightly, "A Noble in trouble.

"I never learned his name, despite employing a small spy network. It is a necessary thing, information. Very helpful. However, we were leaving immediately. He wanted protection for the trip to Luthadel, and was planning on traveling by canal. I ended that thought and moved us overland, using a route that was designed to confuse and loose any assassin teams. They found us anyway.

"During the fighting, he ran, and I was severely injured. My wife, traveling as an advisor to the Noble, was also badly injured, a Coinshot managed to maneuver around us, and a coin slashed through her stomach. She was to die the next day, curled up and unconscious in a Skaa hovel. I Snapped at the point, somehow able to burn pewter that was in my blood, and managed to survive the Thug's blow to my face. My Skaa cared for me, and when I was again alive. I knew I must come to Luthadel, and find the man that betrayed me and left me to die."

He stops for a moment, his eyes hard and angry, "And the Obligator that fled with him."

His eyes lift to meet the steel spikes of the Inquisitor, and for a moment, the hardness of his soul matches the hardness of the steel "So you ask what my grievances are with you? My 'god,' my Church, and my new found powers have taken everything of worth from me. The so called pathetic Skaa have sought to help me. So ask yourself, in that situation, which would you choose? To believe in something that seeks to attack you, or to believe in something that seeks to help you? I have sided with the Skaa, and if that means my life, so be it." His mouth closes, but his eyes still burn hard.

Some hours later, Cantos began to stir. His head was sore, his body was sore, and his stomach was a pool of acid. However. He was alive... and not in chains. He was confused and looked about. There was his opponent, sitting, and strumming on his loot. Confused, he said "Who are you?!"

The coin slammed into his shield, and Cantos used the force to fall backwards and roll onto his shield. A desperate pull sent him skidding across the floor right underneath the floating feet of the Inquisitor. He held on tight to his shield, pulling as hard as he could, and suddenly something happened. It was as if the iron in his chest roared to life and sent him flying hard. He crashed into the wall, and stumbled to his feet, clear across the room from the Inquisitor. Shocked he was still alive he stumbled into a defensive position. [I}This Allomancy is powerful.[/I] He thought to himself.

Cantos watched the cane sweeping in, and immediately dropped to the ground. Rolling to the side, he didn't even attempt to parry, just dodge aside. Knowing he wouldn't make it, he grabbed a blue line attached to one of the coins and pulled hard. The coin was firmly attached, and instead of it flying to Cantos, Cantos flew to it. He let go and landed lightly on his feet, significant distance between the two of them.

Lifting his shield, an idea came to his head, and he dropped into a low crouch, dueling cane up, shield forward.

Cantos swore as he was thrown in to the hovel. The strength was overwhelming! How did he end up fighting an Inquisitor? He dampened the panic immediately, burned iron, and watched as blue lines spread out over the room. Uncertain of what to do, he yanked on all the ones that touched the Inquisitor. One went through him to the lock, which ripped off the door pulling the lock and wooden splinters into the back of Cantos' opponent.

Startled by the force of his pull, he stumbled, but kept his shield and dueling cane up. He quickly began to look for an exit or another pathway.

#2546267 Walk about

Posted by Cantos Orlan on 08 July 2010 - 06:01 AM in Commercial District

As a Hazekiller, Cantos had been well trained in the arts that would oppose him: Soothers, Rioters, Thugs, Lurchers, Coinshots, Smokers.... he was familiar with them all.

An Obligator in a Skaa slum? Hardly. An Obligator touching on his emotions so lightly? Hardly again. Immediately his training kicked in. Here was an allomancer, one who seemed to sooth and riot. A mistborn.

Cantos knew he was in trouble, but felt the pull against his emotions to calm. He fought it, desperately trying to regain control. He needed to gain the initative, especially against a Mistborn, but he had a surprise. He wasn't any Skaa Hazekiller. He was a noble, and a Mistborn Hazekiller. An odd combination, but he was willing to try anything.

Without waiting, or even answering the invitation, he burned his small store of iron and pulled hard on the lock, knowing it would act as a punch to the gut.

Cantos followed along, though he was growing suspicious, and let more space open up between himself and the Obligator. The man moved towards the side street without any hesitation or problem, as if he could see it, despite the covering over his eyes. What is going on here?

"Indeed my Lord Obligator," he paused. "You do!" He followed down the side street, noticing how closely built the city was here, the building seemed to lean against each other for support. Cantos was concerned, this was the perfect place for an ambush.

[I}I am a fool.[/I] He cursed to himself. He had killed an Obligator, and somehow they had tracked him down. He didn't even make it hard. He walked right up to one! Cantos felt like an idiot and his face burned as he realized that the man in front of him must be laughing at his good fortune, perhaps preparing himself for the accolades of his companions in the Ministry.

As they walked, they came to a fairly empty area, only a few skaa who hurriedly walked away. He nodded to himself, If he is going to act, it will be here.

"My Lord, might I suggest an alternate route?" He knew that his suggestion would be ignored, but he lifted his shield and dueling cane.
