Elle has a harsh beauty to her, her features are symmetrical and well formed, but the angles of her face are sharp and hard. Her eyes are a cool, unforgiving gray, they and her pale skin are a sharp contrast to her dark hair.

She is extremely short, only an inch over five feet and lightly built. Her body is tougher than it looks though, hardened by years of working as a carpenter. Her hands and arms are covered with a lifetime's worth of scars from her work, silvery lines that trace over her skin and rough callouses that mar it.

Elle always stands so as not to be noticed, her head slightly bowed, her shoulders hunched just a bit, making her seem smaller than she already is. She sticks to corners and shadows, out of the main line of sight for most people, and is comfortable there.

Were anyone able to read minds, the word quiet would not be able to describe Elle, but since no one can that would be the word most would use to describe her. This is wrong though, Elle is quite a bit more talkative then the average person, she just does all her talking in her head. Questions, answers, idle musings, they constantly swirl around in her mind, fighting for attention, which she rarely gives.

Due to how much time she spends in her head, and the trouble she has reading people, Elle is something of an introvert. She doesn't try to avoid people, and in fact likes the company of those closest to her, but she isn't someone who can really hold an idle conversation.

Growing up, Elle was her parent's only child, and as such carried all their hopes and dreams on her shoulders. While some would chafe at the pressure, Elle embraced it, feeling it was only her duty to do as her parents wished of her. This has led her to greatly respect authority, and to defer to those above her easily.

Special Skills: Wood Carving/Carpentry, Observation, Remaining Unobtrusive.
Strengths: Elle is a fantastically good carpenter, trained from a young age by her father in the art of woodworking. But besides that she is also an observer. She loves to watch, mostly people, and try to figure out why they do what they do.
Weaknesses: Elle watches people so avidly because she does not understand them. She can read expressions, so long as they are obvious (she will not mistake a frown for a smile for instance) but subtle things elude her. She does not know how to read emotions like most people do, and it leaves her at a loss in social situations. This handicap has caused her to become soft spoken to an extreme, and spend most of her time in her head.

Born in 896 to a family of skaa craftsman Elle lived a blessed life, for a skaa. Her parents were of the rare class of craftsman skaa, her father being a carpenter of some renown. However complications with her birth meant that Elle would forever be an only child, rather then with the many brothers and sisters typical of a skaa family.

Growing up, her parents doted on their only daughter. Her father even taught her wood working, since he had no son to pass his knowledge unto, and Elle's single minded focus on the subject meant she soon rivaled her father's skill.

And so more then two decades passed in a rather idyllic way, for a skaa. In fact, Elle might have spent her entire life not knowing she was a misting if not for a nobleman.

This nobleman killed her father in front of her very eyes due to a misunderstanding, and Elle Snapped. A single, frantic push ended with the nobleman being slain by his own weapon, and Elle running away from the only home she'd ever known.

Luckily for Elle, Rebel Seekers sensed that frantic flare of steel, and the running girl was quickly found and recruited by the rebellion before the inquisition found her.

Elle had been working for an hour on the figure. Starting with a block of hardwood that she shaped into the rough approximation of a horse. She was just starting to refine the design when the nobleman came in.

He'd come to test out a chair they'd been making for him, to make sure it was to his liking. It was nothing Elle had to be involved in, and she paid it no mind until she heard an almighty crash.

Her knife went skittering across the horse's surface, narrowly missing her thumb and leaving a deep scar in the wood. She'd have to start all over again. But more important than that was the suddenly angry voice of the nobleman. She peered through the doorway at the front of the shop.

"-trying to kill me skaa?" the nobleman was shouting, drawing his sword.

"No my lord, of course not, the wood was just weak, I must not have seen it. I'm so sorry" her father babbled, backing away from the man.

"Stop lying skaa, tell me who paid you and I'll end you quickly." the nobleman snarled.

Her father backed into a table, and started side stepping, "No one paid me anything my lord, it was an accident, I swear!"

"So be it." said the nobleman, and he lunged forward, his sword sinking easily into her father's chest.

Somewhere deep inside herself, Elle started screaming.

She stared, eyes wide, at the man. Her mind wouldn’t work. Her father saw her, and his mouth moved, but all that came out was a groan of pain. One hand twitched, and then he was still.

The nobleman stood over her father, sword still in hand. Sunlight glinted off steel and blood. He didn't move, but the blood on his sword did, and Elle found herself watching it drip unto her father's forehead, spilling across it like tiny, crimson tears.

"Why?" she didn't mean to speak, but the word was out of her mouth before she could stop it, and the lord whirled around to look at her with wild eyes.

"What did you say?" his voice was soft, like thunderclouds. Soft and deadly.

Her eyes were on the sword,

She didn't answer for a moment, too paralyzed by fear, but then a part of her, the part of her that always asked questions, made her speak. "Why did you kill him? I made that chair." she met the nobleman's gaze, "You should have killed me."

The nobleman inhaled sharply, and his sword quivered in his hand. After a moment though, it stilled, and he narrowed his eyes, "That," he said, taking a step towards her, "can be arranged."

As he did, something that had cracked when her father had been struck shattered into a thousand tiny pieces. She felt a warmth in her chest that she had never felt before, and blue lines appeared in her vision, crisscrossing across one another, every one beginning at her heart.

The nobleman took another step forward, his sword held out before him, slightly raised. His wild eyes grew a touch wilder, and Elle knew he was going to kill her. She had nowhere to run, he stood between her and the only exit. She also knew that she did not want to die, and it was that thought that made her raise her hands, as if she could block the sword with just her arms.

In her chest, the warmth flared, and tools were ripped from where they were hung, chairs were knocked to the floor, nails trembled in their moorings, and the young noble fell to the ground, dead, his face brutally slashed open where his sword had snapped back and cracked open his skull. Elle stumbled as she felt dozens of different things push back, and she fell to her knees as the warmth went out.

It was a struggle to get back to her feet, but Elle managed it eventually. When she finally did however, she didn't know what to do. All her life she'd done what her father wished her to do, and now he was- her mind skittered away from that thought, not wanting to face it, but all she had to do was look, and there was no escaping it. Her father was dead.

Her entire life had been spent doing what her father wished of her. It was hard to think any other way, so she just thought of what he'd want her to do now.

It was easy. He'd want her to live.

She had to get out, before anyone saw her and the dead men. Leave Luthadel, disappear... somewhere.

So she ran. Ran as fast as she could past the two dead men and out onto the street.

She had to get away.
