Tensions had been too high in the Venture household since the night of the Casuana ball. Rhea had made a grave error in letting her servant get caught. Magnus had been unusually cold to her in the days after, even with her increased efforts to stop him from being cross with her. He had a way of making Rhea feel like she was living a hopeless lie when he got this way. They had fights before, but most of the aggravation could be blamed on someone else, rather than pointed directly at Rhea.

This time, because it was expressly her fault that Magnus was angry. Even after years of being married, it was hard to predict what Magnus would take as offensive, or inappropriate. She felt like she understood her husband to an extent, but he was so closed off, even to her, that she never saw the true man, hidden so deep underneath.

Instead of bear yet another day of complete silence in the keep, Rhea decided to get out for luncheon in Fellise that she had been invited to the week before. She woke early, got dressed in one of her frocks – which was suitable for being seen by other nobility. The dress was a deep green, with a small embroidered pattern of yellow along the sleeves and at the hem. As with most of her dresses, it accentuated the smallest part of her waist, and was very modest. The bulk of her hair was pulled back into a tight bun, but a few strands were pulled out, to frame her face.

Once she was dressed, Rhea left in a carriage to carry her to Fellise. It was nice to get away from the keep, and to watch the scenery outside her window roll by; it helped to clear her mind. Thankfully, she could bring her own . It was more important for her smoker to be in place. It was perfectly natural for a woman of her stature to bring her ladies everywhere she happened to want to go.

A day of relaxation was exactly what Rhea's nerves needed. Fellise was much quieter than Luthadel felt. Luthadel often felt too crowded in Rhea's opinion. Rhea had always loved the idea of living in Fellise, but Magnus was too attached to Keep Venture to leave it behind, and they would never accomplish any of the plans Rhea had for Magnus if they lived elsewhere.

Once Rhea arrived at the villa, she was announced to the hosts and found herself a spot to sit on the pavillion, with her servants in tow. She made her greetings to the host, adding an apology for Magnus' absence, although he hadn't given an excuse. The truth was that she hadn't told him where she was going. He would be too busy training and watching the guards to notice that she was gone.

She made idle conversation. This helped her practice her touch with Allomancy. It was a thrill simply because she was hidden. No one knew that she was a rioter, and that made it that much more fun to tug at people's emotions, bringing forth the tidbits of gossip she wouldn't hear otherwise.

This was certainly shaping up to be an enjoyable afternoon.

Andrew looked up from his conversation with a several old associates who were keeping an eye on things in Fellise for him at the sound of a familiar voice.

Rhea Venture. Interesting. After their last encounter, Andrew had decided to make some discrete inquiries into Rhea's past. His investigations didn't tell him much more than he had already known. The Olliviers were a minor house, associated with the Ventures, and Rhea's marriage to Magnus had been arranged by their fathers. While House Ollivier was far below Venture in station, their association with the Ventures and Magnus's solitary nature accounted for the nature of their marriage, and the lack of a wife more suitable to his rank. Since her inclusion into the Venture houusehold, from what Andrew could find, Rhea managed to fit right in, quickly making friends in powerful circles, and bringing up her son Broderick along side Ellsworth's heir.

Were something to happen to Nevan... Shokhan, the eldest Venture brother, had joined the ministry long ago, and his children, both born out of wedlock, wouldn't have been considered for the succession even if they were alive. As things were, Phyra was dead, and Andrew had never bothered to track what had become of her brother. Something to do with the ministry, he thought.

That meant that next in line, was Magnus and his son, Broderick, unless Andrew was missing a relative. Wouldn't that be something, for a woman like Rhea to go from being the scion of a minor house to the mother of one of the most powerful men in Luthadel. Reports indicated that she had a far closer relationship to her son than Andrew had to either of his children, and might even be able to exert some influence, should Broderick inherit the title.

That on its own made her interesting enough, but if she were also an allomancer... Andrew still did not know what to think about their last encounter. Even Daerra was adept at recognizing when someone was tampering with her emotions, surely he, Andrew Elariel, a master of emotional allomancy, would have noticed if someone like Rhea was doing the same to him. And yet, how else did he explain the feelings he had felt after her departure?

He had already decided that there was only one way he was going to get to the bottom of things, and that was to speak to her again, in private if possible. As two powerful members of great houses, it shouldn't be too much trouble. Turning his attention back to his current situation, Andrew began to intensify the soothing of his companions, who were already trained to be receptive to his touch. He focused on their restraint, self consciousness, sense of obligation, and respect, hoping to make them more raucous and disruptive. He continued to add layer after layer of soothing until the right moment, then delivered a quick jibe to the most vulnerable of his companions, to which the entire group erupted in laughter. As they did, Andrew turned his attention to Rhea, soothing away the attention she was paying to her current conversation, in the hopes the noise would make her turn and notice him.

Rhea had started conversing with a friend whom she didn't see very often – Evelyn Belham. They had been friends for ages, and her family was close to the Olliviers. Rhea could remember associating with Evelyn and her brother -- whose name escaped her -- when she was younger. Evelyn was a full five years her junior, and had three children. Even if her family was a lower station than she was now, she could not deny that she had climbed the social ladder quickly by ignoring her childhood peers.

“It's lovely you can make it out to luncheon with so many young ones running around your estate. You say your family has been lucky this year? That is wonderful to hear, but I do hope that it was not entirely luck that has brought your house those new contracts,” Rhea said. The last sentence was slightly slower, spoken through the distraction of a boisterous laughter from some men in a separate group from the one she was currently talking to.

My they are enjoying themselves, Rhea thought as she looked up, catching the gaze of Andrew Elariel. What a pleasant surprise. It was nice to see that she wasn't the only one from the great houses to attend the luncheon in Fellise. She smiled at him. Once she had recognized Andrew, she had to say hello. It was only polite. Their families may not completely get along, but they were introduced on a personal level. In Rhea's philosophy, just because the Ventures had a problem with the Elariels didn't mean that Rhea had to stay far away from Andrew. On the contrary, if there is any way to salvage relations between the houses after Mikhail's unfortunate demise, the members of the house should have more to do with one another. To mend the break, as it were.

Rhea excused herself from the conversation with Evelyn, not truly hearing the last few words. Rhea slowly released the emotional hold she had on the small group she had been chatting with. She didn't touch Andrew's emotions yet; she would need to gauge his moods first. On the surface he looked happy enough, but she didn't feign to understand the things going on in his head only from seeing his face across the pavillion.

“Andrew Elariel, how lovely to see you again,” she said, curtsying as she approached Andrew. “I trust you are enjoying yourself.” Rhea smiled. After their last meeting, Andrew had been on her mind a fair amount, It seemed fitting that she would run into him at this luncheon.

Andrew kept the smugness from his smile as he turned from his conversation to face Rhea. He bowed politely, matching her stately grace. "Lady Rhea, the pleasure is all mine." Speaking over his shoulder to his companions. "Gentleman, I hope you will excuse me, Lady Rhea and I have some catching up to do I believe. The other men nodded, making polite bows to Rhea as they obediently moved elsewhere, responding to both his rank and his allomancy.

"Now then, Lady Rhea, I begin to tire of the din in this pavilion. I heard our generous host boasting of his ornate gardens earlier. Would you grant me the privilege of accompanying you as we investigate the quality of the grounds." When he was done speaking, Andrew bowed again, reaching out his hand for Rheas, while taking the opportunity to check on his tail, who seemed to be flirting with a young lady. Only one of his three usual smokers had been available for the days trip to Fellise, so Andrew was being forced to make do. Nonetheless, the man had proven himself competent in the past. Andrew was confident the man could come up with some ploy to get his lady friend to accompany him away from the pavilion as well, without seeming to follow Andrew. It was his job, after all.

Rising with a smile, Andrew let his allomantic figures begin to play lightly at the edges of Rhea's emotions, getting the feel for her emotional state. "Shall we?"

Lady Rhea gave a shallow curtsy of a farewell to the men Andrew had been speaking with, turning to walk with him along the pavillion. Her heightened emotions from her frequent fights with Magnus took a back burner to some new feelings. She had been feeling under appreciated, but with the simple gesture of leaving his associates to talk a while with her made her feel important, and made her glad she came to this soiree.

"If we do not inspect the gardens, I am not sure how we would ever know if our host is simply boasting," she said, smiling. "And inspecting them alone would hardly be acceptable social behavior, especially not at a luncheon." This was her way of accepting, of course. She could never just simply say yes or no; she had to make a show of it.

Rhea felt her supply of metals -- which was hearty -- and started burning them again. She didn't ease her emotional clutch onto Andrew quite yet, however. She turned her head to spot her smoker -- who was not far behind -- before taking Andrew's arm, allowing him to escort her off the pavillion and into the gardens.

"Do you often come to Fellise?" she inquired, trying to open up the conversation, in order to get a read on his emotions.

"Not as much as some," Andrew replied carefully. As a prominent member of one of Luthadel's greatest houses, he had to show he had the luxury to go to Fellise if he wanted to, but also that he had the power to force his acquaintances to meet him on his turf in Luthadel. "House matters keeps me fairly busy most of the time, so I do most of my business and socializing in the capital. The city does grow dreary after a while, however, and sometimes it is nice to experience a more rural setting."

As he spoke Andrew began isolating certain emotions with his soothing, hoping to already have accustomed Rhea to his touch, so more direct ministrations would not be noticed as easily. Even so, he proceeded with care and subtlety. If she really was an emotional allomancer, she would be an incredibly skilled one, to escape Andrew's notice through their first encounter, which meant she would recognize if someone was altering her own emotions. For all Andrew knew, preposterous as it seemed to him, she might have been aware he was soothing her throughout their entire conversation, and was ready for him.

He started with her insecurity, nervousness, indifference, and paranoia, along with a few other auxiliary emotions, hoping to make her more interested and attentive to what he was saying, and him as a person, and less interested in the possibility that he was manipulating there. Knowing that noticing such things could be second nature for a woman like Rhea, he kept his touch light, so it just barely took effect, not wanting to be caught in the act. Then, he slowly began soothing away her restraint. If she were an allomancer, he would need her to influence him and sense her doing it if he wanted to prove it to himself. Right now, all he had to go off of was a vague feeling he had felt, or had remembered feeling, after their last encounter.

Perhaps I am being foolish, he thought. He was a master of emotional allomancy, after all. Did he really believe that Rhea Venture of all people could have manipulated his feelings without being noticed? Thinking the woman was an allomancer because of a feeling seemed like a paranoia more characteristic of his daughter than of Andrew. And yet, he had felt something, hadn't he? It also wasn't like him to doubt himself, as his instincts, plans, and careful observation of the world and people around him had always served him well in the past. Today's encounter will reveal all he told himself. At least his time wouldn't be wasted. Allomancer or not, Rhea Venture was a valuable contact, and he found her company intriguing at the very least. But, if she were an allomancer, wouldn't it be thrilling to finally test himself against someone who had already proven to be his match?

As they began to stroll through the gardens, Andrew smiled to himself. "Lovely, isn't it?" he asked Rhea, "With the sun high, and trees with full leaves waving lightly in the breeze, I almost wonder why I don't come out more often. It is a nice break from the filth of Luthadel after all. It's a shame that the city requires so many skaa in order to function. I suppose that's the price we pay for the power and influence we wield. Luthadel may be dirty, cramped, and corrupt, but it is undeniably powerful, and thus absolutely necessary." He was careful not to mention the comparison between the great houses and the lesser nobility who populated suburbs like Fellise, lest he offend Rhea, who was, after all, originally from a lesser house.

Andrew shook his head, as if stumbling back into alertness from a poignant dream. "Apologies, Lady Rhea. I did not mean to be so philosophical, when you asked such a straightforward question. Luthadel keeps the mind sharp, but idyllic Fellise seems to encourage relaxation whether one seeks it or not. Do you come here often?"

Rhea watched her companion with interest, because he was an interesting man. He seemed very proper, but he seemed to try to say exactly the right things. Which slipped sometimes when he wasn't paying complete attention, such as when he seemed to go on philosophical tangents about Luthadel. Even though she felt nervous when first setting eyes upon him, like a bird got trapped in her rib cage, she was starting to wonder why that was. She felt much calmer now that they were away from the group.

Briefly she wondered if that would be seen as strange by the other patrons of the luncheon. She concluded that since they were both married and simply enjoying one another's company away from the group as members of two houses desperately trying to mend a relationship that was broken by a loose cannon, it would be seen as normal.

"Not at all," she said. "I have often felt the same way. Fellise feels like a home away from home to me," she said smiling. "I don't get to come as often as I would like, but every time I do, I feel refreshed and ready to re-enter the city filth, as you put it."

She finally felt comfortable enough to actually begin playing with Andrew's emotions. She didn't know what she hoped to gain from this man, or why he intrigued her so much, but perhaps it was because he was an interesting challenge.

She rioted his curiosity, self-confidence, and pride, easing her grip on his emotions very gently, confident in her skills enough to assume he couldn't feel what she was doing. No other person in her life knew of her abilities, so how could a stranger who had not known her very long pick up on that?

"The gardens are quite lovely... It's easier to keep them maintained here when you don't have the politics and intrigue to keep you busy in the city," she said. "I do not think I could completely give up life in Luthadel to take an estate in Fellise. I grew up in Luthadel, as you probably know. I am fond of the city." Rhea said, quieting after realizing she was rambling.

"Nor could I," Andrew said, responding to her first comment rather than the second. He was confident he could decieve Rhea, but he still had to be careful. If gave too much away she might guess he had lookedi nto her background and become suspicious of his interest in her, while displaying even feigned ignorance would be an insult to the status of her house. Her comment about Fellise and the city was definitely the safer of the two.

Andrew wondered what it would be like, growing up as a noble in Luthadel outside of the magnificent keeps of the Great Houses. How did being constantly reminded of the economic and political dominance of one's betters by literally living in the shadows of the keeps change how a person viewed power? The Olliviers, a shipping house, likely would have been used to transporting goods for their betters, but it could not have been easy living constantly under the thumb of the Ventures as they rose to preeminence as the greatest house in the empire.

Andrwe had never really thought about his lessers in this way before. The world was made up of tools for him to use after all, an a person's rank was only a determining factor in the ways in which they could be used to him. Did lesser houses value their position? Could Elariel's vassal houses proud of the accomplisments of their master house and their part in her success? Andrew had always thought it only logical to assume the lesser houses resented the power and control the Great Houses wielded, but lesser pawns were also vital to the overall success of a Great House. Andrew had always looked at his house with pride, but for the first time he wondered if others might also feel pride in Elariel's success.

Of course, the lesser houses could not truly claim a stake in the accomplishments of the great. While Andrew supposed they could feel pride in a job well done, their role was one of support, in the same way that servants, both noble and skaa, were necessary for the maintenance of a single noble house, but the end result belong to the lord whose vision concieved it and skill made it possible. Men like Andrew, who were born to lead, even if they were not allowed to do so.

He vaguely wondered if Rhea might understand something of his frustrations. Janelle certainly did not. To her, Andrew was a god, perhaps even more important than the Lord Ruler himself. From her perspective, having a family, wealth beyond compare, and a respectable social position meant he had everything, and she could not understand his burning desire for more. After all, why would a perfect man want his life to be anything other than what it was?

Rhea, however, was different. The Elariels were not the only house ruled by a second son. When he was younger, Shokhan had been the Venture heir, and Andrew had seen him, rather than Ellsworth, as his chief rival from that house. He would not argue that Shokhan's defection to the ministry and Ellsworth's ascension ahd been bad for the Ventures, indeed, while Shokahn had been a worthy adversary, from what Andrew had observed, Ellsworth was proving himself to be the better lord. The question was, did Rhea feel that way? From what Andrew knew of Magnus, the thought of him assuming leadership instead of Ellsworth seemed laughable, but that didn't mean it wasn't a possibility. After all, was Andrew himself not superior to Alistair despite his younger brother's leadership? Who was he to say that Magnus would not feel the same? Surely it must have crossed Rhea's mind, at least. There was intelligence there, and intelligence that would undoubtedly see an opportunity in every snub, for if one brother could be passed over, why not two? As the wife of the Lord of House Venture, a woman like Rhea could exert considerable influence, in the same way she could if her son came to the house title.

"Intrigue is a seductive thing, is it not?" he continued after a moment of thought. "Men and women with our power can enjoy any number of splendours, and yet it is intrigue we crave. That constant struggle beneath all the grandeur and pleasantry for more: more leverage, more influance, more power." Andrew spoke softly, but with strength, allowing his words to carry power while seemingly produced without effort. He also intensified his soothing of Rhea's insecurities, adjusting the other emotions he was affecting accordingly, and also added humility to the mix, hoping to bring out her ambition. She had it, Andrew had always been confident in his ability to recognize the trait in others, but he needed her to feel it, so she could understand him.

"And yet, I suppose we must also acknowledge the darker side of intrigue as well, thinking of those who are enslaved, overlooked, or cast aside. As always, seduction is coupled with danger, and that risk intensifies the desire." Here, Andrew touched lightly on Rhea's feeligns of loyalty and self-denial. For the response he desired, he needed her to be thinking of herself, not of others. "We risk destruction to achieve security, and when we accomplish our goals, victory inevitably feels sweeter when thinking of what we had to lose." Andrew smiled, touching briefly on Rhea's sense of safety and security to embellish his discussion of loss.

As he finished, Andrew realized he had allowed himself to get a tad carried away. While his tone had remained polite and conversational, the content was decidedly darker than the contents of his usual conversations with women of high rank. He did not apolgize, however, as he had before for his lapse into philosophy. His words had a purpose, after all, and why should he be forced to apologize for expressing his ambition, when it was so clearly justified? He made no move to soften or lessen the impact of his words, allowing Rhea to soak them in, and hoping she would understand.

The first conversation Rhea had with Andrew while waiting for her sister and husband had been a naturally interesting one. They had both been on the top of their game, speaking little of the nature of politics, which was something Rhea appreciated. Every time she left Keep Venture, she was forced to put on this political hat. She would listen, and soak in as much information as she could from everyone around her who was trying to do the exact same thing. It was an interesting position to be in, and being able to riot others made her incredibly useful for getting that political intrigue.

While they hadn't spoken much of politics before, that seemed to be the only course of action, after the recent events between their houses. Unfortunately Rhea could not smooth things over with all of the members of House Elariel on behalf of House Venture. What she could do, however was smooth things over with one man... and perhaps later he would remember her. That was all Rhea wanted. She wanted to be remembered and loved.

Growing up in a lesser Luthadel house had given that to her. She had not been brought up in a Great House, and it was by sheer luck and Magnus' unwillingness to choose a bride for himself that she was granted the opportunity to marry into what was now the most powerful noble house in the Final Empire. The Ventures sat on top of the heap, basking in the light the Lord Ruler graciously gave them. And yet, that was not enough for Rhea. She wanted more power, she wanted more intrugue... and when Andrew began speaking almost exactly what she was thinking, she wondered if she had let her own emotions influence the ones she had been rioting in Andrew. Perhaps they were just on similar trains of thought. They both wanted something more than the lives they were given, but what was it that Andrew Elariel didn't have?

The Elariels were a powerful house. They have skills in politics and their specific fields, but what more could Andrew want? He, of course, was not Lord Elariel. Perhaps that was what he wanted. Could Rhea help him get there? Why would she even consider such a thing? What more could a man want than power, of course Andrew Elariel craved it.

Why did her own husband not crave it the way she wanted to make him? Magnus was not receptive to Rhea's rioting anymore... as he had not tried to take that power that lay just in front of him. She had tried, for the past twenty years, to make Magnus see what he could have if he just applied himself. He had only grown more and more distant from the power she wanted him to have. She feared that not even her son cared about power and political intrigue the way she did.

"Yet when we reach our goals with no intrigue, and things go exactly according to plan, we feel empty. The victory, hollow. The power is seductive, but it's the intrigue that fuels that flame.

"And not many people see the relevance of it. They don't see that bigger picture. What they want is for their plans to go as they laid them out, not realizing what sorrow it will bring them when they had no trouble getting there." Rhea had let her mind wander, but not too far away from the subject. She was thinking of herself, her own situation. She hadn't even thought of Andrew or his, which she had been determined to think through as he talked. She wanted to learn more about him, but instead she thought of herself.

She had gotten carried away by the subject. She tried to bring her mind back to the current, and she slowly eased off of his confidence and pride, trying not to raise any alarms. She was almost sure that was what got Andrew to speak more openly, and without the apology that he offered before for delving too deep too early in their conversation.

"No I don't think I could give up the intrigue, even if it meant a bid for more power than I could imagine. If it were too easy to attain, my interest would drop. It is like a drug, I should think. Once you get a taste you can't bring yourself to stop. You yearn for it, and thrive on it. Some people, who cannot control it or themselves get lost in it." She wondered if they were even still on the same subject they had been on before... how had the conversation gotten away from her?

She continued to ease up on his confidence and pride. Instead, trying to veer the conversation hopefully away from herself. She had given away too much of herself already. She much preferred conversational partners that allowed her to fan their egos, rather than ones that could make her feel like she was giving away her deepest secrets. Her lust for power and the journey that got her there being one of them. The seriousness of their conversation had already taken a toll on Rhea, but she was not willing to suggest leaving. She found something seductive about it. Perhaps it really was the intrigue of it all.

"Do you find it easy to keep your bearings, Andrew, or do you find yourself getting lost?" She asked, drawing the conversation hopefully away from her for the moment.

There. Andrew could see it in Rhea's eyes. She did understand. He had seen the desire in her eyes, the flames of ambition, the thrill of risking everything for more.

"Lady Rhea," Andrew said, letting a smile that was all to genuine grace his face, "Getting lost is never a danger when you lay the blue prints yourself." As he spoke, something made Andrew pause. Was he truly responsible for laying the blue prints of his destiny, or was he just struggling to decipher different pieces of the same map everyone else was fighting for? Had knowing what he was doing gotten him where he was today, an heir who would never recieve his inheritance? The confidence and pride thath ahd seemed to be coursing through him previously seemed to have lessened somewhat, dampened by the realities of his situation.

"Unless of course," he continued, determined not to seem weak in front of Lady Rhea, "One wishes to lose themselves, even if only for a short while. I'll admit that is a temptation, to stop thinking about the end result and enjoy the power of the moment, manouvering people just for the sake of it, controlling them just because you can." Andrew intensified his soothing slightly as he spoke, pushing just a little harder on all the emotions he held in hand. He liked the mood Rhea was currently in, and enjoyed it even more knowing he was making her feel this way.

"You've felt what I speak of, haven't you?" Andrew asked, looking directly into Rhea's eyes and attempting to hold her with his gaze. "One does not climb as far as you have without knowing how to play the game, after all. But then, you must know as well as I that the higher you climb, the more difficult it is to quit, no matter how far there is to fall."

Everything Andrew was saying struck something inside Rhea. She had never met anyone as ambitious as she was... Magnus had no patience for politics and most of the women Rhea spent time with never tried their hand at grasping true power. Rhea, of course, cared about power more than any other singular thing. When Rhea wanted something, she took it. That raw ambition within her was only augmented by her ability to riot people rather than created by it. She got what she wanted by force via metals, if she could not through political prowess.

Rhea had wanted to forget about the games, the politics, and everything for a short time. A vacation from using her metals, from watching her plans fail for another day... but there was something keeping her going. The prospect of having her plans come to fruition someday, perhaps?

How was she supposed to answer Andrew? He knew exactly what she was feeling. It was as if he could read every thought she was having... and determined how she was feeling.

Rhea could see the confidence, and the pride in his posture and tone. She could tell he was enjoying himself, and that whether he wanted her to know it or not, he wanted her to feel what he was feeling. He locked her in his gaze, revealing possibly more than he meant to. For anyone else, his gaze would simply be intense. They would see his confidence and his ego, they might see his pride... but they didn't have the experience with emotion that Rhea boasted.

She saw hope in that gaze.

And then she intensified her rioting slowly. She could see how he was feeling now, he had given away more of himself than Rhea thought he would. Actually he had given away a lot in such a short amount of time. She felt more connected to Andrew Elariel than anyone thus far in her life. They had the same drive, the same ambition.

Her own confidence returned and she rioted his pride, his confidence, hoping to inflate and stroke his ego. For a few moments in that silence she also rioted his hope. That hope that someone might feel the same way that he did. She held it for as long as she let the silence linger.

"All too well, Andrew," she said still holding his gaze. "I wouldn't give up the games for anything... no matter what the consequences." she said, carefully choosing her words.

She paused, finally averting her stare. "The temptation is too great. Even if I were to lose myself for a while, I would always come back. I would always look to climb. It is just a part of who I am. And from what I understand, I'm not as entirely alone as I once thought." Rhea found Andrew's eyes again, feeling entirely comfortable looking at him now that she could see what was behind those layers of ego.

"It is a nice feeling," she said, quietly.

"And from what I understand, I'm not as entirely alone as I once thought," Rhea said, meeting Andrew's gaze evenly. If only Janelle could look at him like that. Janelle loved him, or at the very least, loved what he was, or what they were together, but that love a trivial sentiment compared to the raw wanting he saw in Rhea's eyes. He had not yet determined if that want was for him, but he could tell it was for more. He knew it instantly, for he possessed a similar unsatiable desire for more than he had, and quite possibly ever could have.

Could it be? He wondered. He had never met someone who he could speak with so freely, and on the same level with before. Janelle, he had thought once, might have been his equal, had there been any substance behind her act. Alas, she had proven to be just as susceptible to his persuasions as everyone else, if not more so, despite being incredibly competent at concealing her true emotions. Rhea, on the other hand, if not his equal in terms of intellect and allomancy, could at least understand his motivations. It was...

Allomancy! Years of training prevented Andrew from giving any outward reaction, but as he gazed into Rhea's eyes, suddenly it became clear to him. This hope, this optimism, this certainty that Rhea was on some level his equal could not have come naturally. It had felt natural at the time, but now that Andrew looked back, he could see where she had used his natural emotional tendencies against him to blind him to her ministrations. Her touch had been masterful, perhaps not as good as Andrew's own, but close...

Stop it! he told himself, trying to ignore the emotions that were being affected by Rhea's allomancy without giving any outward reaction. How had he let things get so carried away? I should leave, he told himself. He needed to get away, and collect himself before things went any further. He would end the conversation on a polite note, piquing her interest enough to ensure a future encounter, where he would be ready to deal with her.

"It's a nice feeling," she was saying quietly, her eyes not leaving his.

On the other hand, why shouldn't he deal with her right then and there? Did her allomancy change anything? Or did it merely confirm what he already suspected? Could it be that Rhea Venture was the challenge he had been searching for?

It can't be, he told himself, fighting against the hope that seemed to keep welling up inside of him. Analyzing his emotions, he was reasonably certain Rhea must be a rioter, but his earlier failure to catch her made him wary of ruling out the possibility she was a soother. I have no equal. His discovery of Rhea's manipulation proved that. Now that he knew, he could proceed to push her at his leisure, until he achieved an outcome he desired.

Unless she already knows. "Yes, it is," Andrew said carefully, continuing to hold Rhea's gaze. "A nice feeling indeed." As he spoke Andrew clamped down on Rhea's emotions, violently soothing away all traces of emotion besides raw, unencumbered want, not even qualified by the self interested elements of ambition. Let's see just what, and how much you desire, Lady Rhea.

It wasn't until she could feel her emotions being almost violently quieted did she realise what she had uncovered -- and subsequently what she had allowed Andrew Elariel to uncover about her. She hadn't felt his touch before, but it was all so clear now. He had been touching her emotions from the start. And he was good

In that moment, Rhea could see clearly everything she wanted. She wanted a deeper connection with Andrew. She hadn't felt that with anyone in over twenty years. Her husband was completely unemotionally invested in her, and truth be told, Rhea gave up the hope that they might have that whirlwind romance that she had dreamt about for so long in her youth. Falling in love was something for children, and idiots.

Power was the only thing Rhea wanted. Power that Magnus wasn’t going to give her in this lifetime. His connection to Ellsworth was too strong… and he trained Nevan how to fight. How could he get rid of them both now? Magnus was weak; he disgusted her.

Raw wanting and desire made her want to be closer to Andrew. She wanted him... if only because he understood her more completely than she could have hoped. They both knew what it was like to have to hide from everyone. What Rhea craved more than anything in the world was understanding. Just how much Andrew understood, she couldn't say. He had uncovered her deepest and closest kept secret in only a few short hours together alone, so he might have some kind of idea.

As far as power, they both gained some in this meeting today. Perhaps it wasn’t the kind of power that Rhea hoped for in the long run, but she had some leverage now. She knew his secret, he knew hers.

Once she recovered, realizing what emotion he desired from her, she felt for her reserves of zinc. She stopped burning it for an instant, and then rekindled it, Rioting his desire. What did Andrew want? They were alone, what was stopping her from taking what she wanted.

She had no fear, no doubt. Just desire. She pulled Andrew close to her and kissed him with a passion that Magnus had never seen from Rhea… And he never would.

After quickly glancing to both sides to ensure they were alone, Andrew returned Rhea's kiss with equal fervor. This was what he lived for, after all, pushing and pulling people with his actions and allomancy until they became his. While Rhea was far from being his creature, her kiss was the result of her succumbing to his allomantic power. Even if the relationship went no farther than this, he would leave Fellise satisfied at having once again exerted his dominance over another human being.

However, he found himself not wanting the moment to end, high as he was on both power and what he suspected was Rhea's allomancy. He allowed himself to get lost in the passion and emotion of the moment, holding on to the kiss while still clamping down on Rhea's emotions. He did not let go of either her body or her emotions until she herself pulled away.

In that moment, Rhea was completely his. The kiss lasted longer and was more passionate than any other she had experienced in the last twenty years. She was entirely his from head to toe. Whatever he wanted was what she would give him. She knew intuitively that it was because of his emotional manipulation and that she had played right into his arms, but at the moment she almost didn't mind.

She stopped burning her metals the moment they started kissing, and she felt his control of her extinguish when they stopped kissing. Rhea flushed. Her cheeks were red as the sun. She stuttered a few times trying to find the right words to say.

Instead of speaking, she turned on her heels and rushed back to the party, fixing a stray hair that fell from her bun. She made her polite excuses and summoned her carriage to take her back to Keep Venture. How had she let that happen? Was it truly just his emotional manipulation or was there something more?

Rhea would have to figure all of this out before the next time they met. Andrew Elariel had defintiely not seen the last of Rhea.

Not in the least.
