The Lord Ruler's perfect capital city, Luthadel, is doing the impossible: rebelling. Skaa half-breeds are being taught the power of Allomancy, something that the Lord Ruler's obligators said only existed in the nobility. The enslaved skaa, with their murderous benefactor, now fight back against a living god's oppression.

So, the Inquisition was formed. The nobles begin to fear assassination from all sides. The times of nobility Mistborn killing each other are over. The Steel Inquisitors look for aristocrat traitors and insurgent skaa, and the skaa try with all their strength to merely survive. The Lord Ruler's perfect Final Empire is slowly devolving into chaos.

((Noelle has graciously agreed to allow me to make the first move, so here, ladies and gentlemen, is my first roleplay post on this site, and the very first roleplay post in the Arena. A big hand to K-Chan, please, for making this fun little area for us to play in.))

The mists swirled, dancing about the two combatants. Fiusha flared her steel, calling to the mists to intensify their caress on her skin in response; a subtle mental ploy against an opponent who she knew had to husband his own resources. Blue lines shot out to his pouch of coins; the only metal on his body. More to her own coin pouches, and the bags of pewter dust. Others to the torch brackets on each level of the keep.

She had to wound him early; get him to constantly use pewter without stop to keep the wound from debilitating him. Give him a countdown to defeat, so he'd have to chase her.

Suddenly, she dropped a coin behind her and lauched herself into the air, rapidly firing another at Jasun below, keeping the push going. Either he'd dodge and it would hit the ground, or he'd block with a steelpush of his own; either way, she angled it that she would fly backwards and up to a level of the main tower, behind her.

Jasun waited for the Coinshot to make the first move, as per the rules of their duel. Rules that seemed more and more unfair to him the longer he thought about it. All she had to do was wait him out, and he was dead. He was thinking quite hard about the fact that, when it came down to it, he wasn't a very good Mistborn when the Coinshot made her move, speeding upwards. He burned tin to see her flight more clearly, and just barely saw the coin shooting straight towards him. A flare of pewter got him out of the way just in time, although the coin took a tassel of his Mistcloak with it.

He stayed where he was, crouched on the ground, for a few moments trying to plan. Nothing came to mind but chasing her. He had to close the distance and end this quickly. So with a sigh at having to use even more of his metals, he tossed a coin down and pushed, launching himself in the air. Following her trail. He burned bronze for a moment to help pinpoint her location, then launched a coin at it, still flying towards her.

She'd been hoping he'd push the coin she shot, giving her an extra boost to gain some height. As it was, she barely made it to the third floor of the main tower, though she'd barely landed when she pushed off the torch brackets a floor below herself, leaping out to a nearby tower. The lines leading to the metal on his body didn't move; she worried he'd left them behind, but after a moment they did move. Why just standing there as long as he had? Had he left some sort of trap?

He was too far for normal sight, but the blue lines of steelsight showed a coin zipping at her. Rather than block, she dodged, pushing against the torch brackets on the two side towers closest to her, on her own level; she deliberately didn't give herself any lift and let gravity start dragging her down.

With the two anchors to Push off of, and her own skill with steel, it wasn't hard to angle herself to be directly above Jasun, and she'd fallen so she was barely ten feet up. When the blue lines pointing to his coin pouch pointed straight down, she flared steel, not only shooting one coin directly at him, but pushing lightly on his own coinpouch, too.

EDIT: to post as the appropriate character

Jasun was still burning steel, so he saw the Coinshot change position and the coin shoot towards him. Instead of trying to dodge, he pushed back with all his might, flaring steel and pushing on the coins and torch brackets beneath him so he shot even faster upward, even with the tug at his waist from where she was pushing on his coins.

He needed to end this quickly, so he turned off his tin and turned on his zinc, Rioting fear and confusion in the Coinshot. At the last second he remembered to turn on his pewter.

Then he burned Duralumin.

Fiusha had been hoping to get a bit of a boost, and some advantageous height, from her push-contest with Jasun. She should have been careful what she wished for.

For a moment, the coin simply resisted, and she started to get a bit of a boost. For a moment, she found herself feeling a little worried, and a bit disoriented. Then everything went crazy.

The slight boost upwards turned into a thrust like the earth punching her as the coin tried to accelerate upwards at a rate approaching a thousand miles an hour, and her own push kept her just ahead of it. Unaccustomed panic bloomed in her brain, and she went full-on freak out, throwing out her hands, flaring her steel and pushing as hard as she could to try to keep the coin away.

But its force was too great. As fast as she was traveling, it traveled much faster still, and despite her attempts to throw her allomantic weight against it, it closed the distance fast enough to pierce her flesh, a few organs, and still fly out her back.

Shortly after, she crested the top of her jump. Spinning gently, she looked straight up. She was so close to the top of the mists, she could actually see a few brightly twinkling stars through their swirling veil. The pain of her wound cleared her mind, and she logically realized that she'd been subjected to duralumin-enhanced zinc panic. Pity. All she'd've had to do was push lightly against Keep Hasting as she passed to get just a few crucial inches out of the coin's direct path, stop pushing, and let it fly past her; she would have avoided injury and fallen no farther than any experienced coinshot is used to. Regretably, the panick kept her from realizing it in time.

From the wound, the sudden acceleration, and the thin air, she passed out. She did not regain consciousness on her way down.

Which just left Jasun, who had shot himself a respectable height in the air; he'd transferred most of the energy through the coin to launch Fiusha high in the air, but he'd've gained a lot of distance himself, particularly since he had more mass than her. So all he has to do to win the fight is manage to survive a fall, with only tin, bronze, and duralumin at his disposal... ^_^

The plan worked beautifully. The Coinshot didn't even try to dodge, and shot up in the air like a cork out of a champagne bottle. Jasun wasn't even crushed by the forces involved, thanks to his Duralumin boosted pewter. He was patting himself on the back for a job well done when he realized he was also dead.

His flight might not be as high as the Coinshot's, but it was deadly all the same, without steel or iron or pewter to cushion his descent he was doomed, "I really should have chosen iron instead of bronze, shouldn't I've." he told the whistling wind.

A few moments later, he hit the ground.

RESULT:

Tie.

Many, many thanks to my brilliant sparring partner, Noelle! I must say, you managed to take me quite by surprise with that move. Still, for a Coinshot to tie with a Mistborn, even one severely handicapped as you so graciously were, is not so terrible a fate. And at least she got to be one of the few living people to see the stars before she died...

Also, a big thanks to everyone on the 17th Shard forum who helped me brainstorm the physics of what exactly would happen.

I hope you all enjoyed the first ever Arena battle! I know I had a great time participating. Don't be shy! Join in! It's mindless and fun! It's the potato chips of role-play.
