Skaa half-breeds are being taught the power of Allomancy, something that the Lord Ruler's obligators said only existed in the nobility. The enslaved skaa, with their murderous benefactor, now fight back against a living god's oppression.

So, the Inquisition was formed. The nobles begin to fear assassination from all sides. The times of nobility Mistborn killing each other are over. The Steel Inquisitors look for aristocrat traitors and insurgent skaa, and the skaa try with all their strength to merely survive. Turns is relatively short and stocky, standing at 5’7, but is broad shouldered and strong. He is quite hairy, and no matter how often he shaves, he always has bristly stubble on his cheeks, chin and neck. He has a pale white scar running from his left elbow to the first knuckle in his left hand’s middle finger from his time as a soldier fighting on the edges of the Final Empire. He has light brown hair, cropped short. His skin is not tanned at all, and that makes the ever-present ash stand out more on his skin. His eyes are a light brown, similar in color to his hair, and are always narrowed as a part of his almost constant scowl, or in concentration. His eyebrows are extremely bushy and unkempt, seeming to cast a shadow over his eyes due to his normal expression, a scowl.

Turnol is a person who is haunted by regret, and that regret causes him to often become overzealous in his completion of his missions, especially missions involving the scamming of obligators or important nobles. When he isn’t stressed, Turnol can keep control over his emotions, but whenever something happens that stresses him out, he gains a very short fuse. Because of this, whenever his short fuse burns down, the emotions explode out, often resulting in a job becoming extremely violent, or things being destroyed.

Turns hates the nobles for how they treat the skaa, and the Steel Ministry for enforcing the Lord Ruler’s will, but he holds a special hatred for all skaa who have joined the Lord Ruler’s army, either garrisons or actually armies fighting on the borders, which is extremely hypocritical, as he joined those armies as well. He deals with this by targeting himself with almost as much hatred as he targets other garrisoners with, and feels that the only way for him to redeem himself is to fight back against the nobles and obligators, as well as the skaa he deems as “traitors”.

While he has heard whispers of a skaa rebellion, he has a home in the Mists crew, and he has no need to leave to join the rebellion because he feels he is hurting the nobility and obligators enough by running jobs on them.

Turnol was born in 879 to Ronal and Sirn, both being skaa. Ronal worked in the forges, while Sirn worked in a textiles plant. When Turnol became old enough to work, he started working with his father, though they didn’t see each other often as they were never in the same area.

Turnol and his father were very close. Ronal taught Turnol everything he would ever need to know to survive in Luthadel as a skaa. Ronal also instilled in Turnol a love of puzzles, often leaving Turnol with a riddle or puzzle in the morning before he left for his work, and rewarding Turnol if he had the answer by the time he returned to their tenement. Turnol idolized his father.

When he was 16, to amuse himself and make the toil pass more quickly, Turnol would try to emulate his father by inventing riddles and jokes for his fellow skaa. The problem with this, however, is that most of the skaa didn’t care whatsoever for his riddles, and he irritated quite a few people with them. Those who he did amuse, though, became his close friends.

The skaa who he really bothered, however, was Kruus, a fellow worker in the forges who also happened to live close to Turnol. Kruus was enormous for 17, and while Turnol wasn’t tiny, he wasn’t anywhere near as large as Kruus. Kruus, however, wasn’t particularly intelligent, and Turnol made it his job to confuse and bother Kruus as much as he could, making it something of a game, where he tested exactly how far he could push Kruus before he snapped. So when they were going off to eat lunch, Turnol tapped Kruus on the right shoulder, then dashed off and vanished into the crowd, leaving Kruus utterly befuddled. However, the next time Turnol tried it, Kruus simply swung his arms in a circle, catching the scampering Turnol in the back of the head, and sending him stumbling down. Knowing that it had been Turnol, Kruus became infuriated, and started to chase him.

Turnol may have been smaller than Kruus, but he was faster, and he led Kruus on a chase, constantly throwing little stones at him or losing him, then belittling Kruus from out of sight, and finally appearing to goad him even more. This chase lasted for a good 10 minutes, leaving Turnol with very little time to eat. He scarfed down his food, making sure that Kruus didn’t notice him, and made his way back to the forges, hoping to have a quick conversation with his father before work started up again.

What he didn’t realize, however, is that his father had never arrived to lunch. Ronal had been beaten to death by a vicious taskmaster not even five minutes before lunch, and Turnol had been too far away to notice. This stole much of his humor, and his once ever-present jokes and riddles almost ceased entirely. He began to let the mindlessness of his work overtake him, trying to lose his grief in his work. This worked for a while, until three days after Turnol turned 20.

In a freak accident in the textile plant, Sirn’s right hand had been crippled, and she was no longer able to work in the plant, because the work she did needed much more dexterity than her one remaining hand, that happened to be her non-dominant hand, could provide. While Turnol managed to provide for her for a few months, they soon began to realize that they couldn’t survive this way for much longer. And so, after a few long nights of deliberation, Turnol made a decision. He would join the Lord Ruler’s armies, and would send a portion of his earnings back to his mother to support her.

Turnol joined the Lord Ruler’s armies, went through training, and was sent to the furthest reaches of the Final Empire, joining an army that was stationed near the edge of the Remote Dominance. He spent the next few months doing very little, as there was very little unrest to quell. However, as it turned out, there was a skaa uprising brewing on the edge of the burnlands, and when the uprising finally erupted, Turnol fought to quell it, hating every moment, but believing that it was the only way to make sure his mother stayed alive and well. The battle was not much of a challenge, but during it, Turnol distinguished himself as a man with leadership skills, and was given command of his own squad. He was in the army for quite a long time, and did not see his mother once.

When he returned to Luthadel at age 27, not much had changed. The same ash-stained buildings, the same River Channerel, the same forges, everything seemed the same. However, his mother’s tenement was gone. The building was half collapsed, and as he searched through the wreckage, desperation beginning to take hold, he found his mother’s body. She had died long enough ago that it was difficult for him to identify her, and as grief overwhelmed him, he heard a voice growl “What are you doing here?” It was a burly skaa, a few years older than Turnol, who was holding a bag of coins. The coins he had sent home to his mother. Turnol attacked the man without tactics, just with simple anger, grief, and brute force. He smashed the man’s head on the floor, killing him, and opened the bag of coins. Inside, he found what he had feared. The note he had put in the bag for his mother.

As he searched around more, he found food, clothing, and other things that no ordinary skaa worker could have gotten, and realized that the man had killed his mother, and had been using the money he had been sending back to his mother to buy things. Overcome with grief, he sat on the cold, hard floor of the collapsed tenement for the entire rest of the day, and the entire night. Almost mindless in his grief, hating himself for committing atrocities against his own people for a mother who wasn’t even alive to use the money he sent her, Turnol was filled with a raging torrent of regret and depression.

The next morning, he tried to give his mother the best burial he could in a tenement, and then departed, unable to bear living near wear his mother had died. He took the money, though, as he had earned it in the first place. He found one of his closest friends, Gossen, and together they began to form a thieving crew, robbing the shops of minor noble merchants, half for a living, but half to fight back against the people who supported the Lord Ruler’s reign. Turnol gained a reputation for creating plans that were practically foolproof, and therefore reduced the chance of casualties. As word of his successes spread throughout the underground, his old friends from when he was a teenager began to find him, some joining his crew. The crew became extremely successful, and they were prosperous for about five years, until they tried to scam House Urvon.

Posing as the head of a niche house that specialized in the shipment of fragile goods to the Eastern Dominance. However, Turnol made one mistake in planning the job. House Urvon delved deep into the background of his fake house, and became suspicious because Turnol hadn’t fleshed out the connections as well as he should have. The next time Kurov -the member of the crew impersonating the noble- met with Bernard Urvon, Bernard began to bombard him with questions about his background, at one point, Kurov made a mistake, began to backpedal, and Bertram was confident enough that he was being scammed.

At a signal from Bernard, the best squad of Urvon Allomancers burst in, killing Kurov and the members of the crew posing as servants. Turnol, while he had planned and organized the job, never went in to the meetings. He was waiting in the atrium when he saw the men go to enter, and made sure all of his men who didn’t enter with Kurov were gone. When he heard the screams, he rushed to the door, and burst in to see Kurov and the two crewmembers posing as servants cut down by two Thugs. They turned and saw him, and he quickly sprinted away. He escaped the building, but as he neared the exit, he saw his remaining crewmembers fighting in a knot against Urvon guards. While the guards were falling, there were only two crewmembers left by the time Turnol reached them. He jumped into the fray, cutting down the remaining guards. He, Gossen, and Veran(the final surviving crewmember) sprinted away from the meeting place, and made it back to their lair.

They hid away there for a few days, and then decided that they needed to join a different crew, and add their skills to the skills of another successful crew. Veran mentioned that he had heard of an up and coming crew in the Twists called the Mists, run by a man named Ras. They decided to approach Ras and ask to join his crew.

After a few days of searching around in the Twists for any hint as to where Ras's hideout was, they were approached by Ras himself, offering all three of them places in his crew. They agreed, and after they proved they were trustworthy, Ras integrated them quickly. They proved themselves quickly, Turnol’s planning and organization skills quickly made him into the Corporal of Steel Platoon. Gossen and Veran both joined him in that Platoon, with Gossen as the Spy of the Platoon, and Veran as the Lookout.

For the last seven years, Turnol has been running jobs for Ras, and as Ras’s Crew grew, so did their successes. While Turnol still hates much about his past, and is terrified of a plan backfiring like the Urvon scam, this makes him extremely devoted to making his plans foolproof, which they usually are extremely close to being. Now he feels like he belongs, and has a purpose in his life.

Hi, Eclipse! Good job on Turns! :) There is one small thing I'd like clarified before I put my stamp on this, though, but it's not too huge of an edit or anything. Basically, I'd just like you to clarify where Turns had heard of Ras, since it's not mentioned at all before Turns suddenly decides to join the crew. Once that's cleared up, let me know and I'll be happy to accept you. :)
