The Lord Ruler's perfect capital city, Luthadel, is doing the impossible: rebelling. Skaa half-breeds are being taught the power of Allomancy, something that the Lord Ruler's obligators said only existed in the nobility. The enslaved skaa, with their murderous benefactor, now fight back against a living god's oppression.

So, the Inquisition was formed. The nobles begin to fear assassination from all sides. The times of nobility Mistborn killing each other are over. The Steel Inquisitors look for aristocrat traitors and insurgent skaa, and the skaa try with all their strength to merely survive. The Lord Ruler's perfect Final Empire is slowly devolving into chaos.

HOUSE BREHAUT
Ascending House

Player Leadership Information
Handle: Comatose
OoC Account: Comatose
Contact: I'm around.

General Information
House Name: House Brehaut
Classification:
Colors: Lilac, brown, red (?-Could change)
Socioeconomic Rating: 6.6
General Description: The ancestral manor and plantations of the Brehauts was located next to a large swath of forest near the border of the Southern and Western dominances. Thus, as they grew more powerful, they began maintaining manors in both Fadrex and Austrex, the two closest major cities to the border. However, after the failure of a major contract with the powerful House Elariel, Brehaut sought southern allies, becoming close with another powerful House who was preparing to ascend, House Hasting. While they have since moved most of their operations to Austrex, going so far as to build a keep and become a high house there, they still maintain a presence in their Fadrex manor as well.

Brehaut as a whole is a prominent manufacturing house, and has mills and factories throughout the southern and central dominances, but the two branches of the family (Western and Southern), though unified, deal with two different primary financial avenues. The larger southern branch specializes in manufacturing paper, ink, graphite, pens, and other stationary. They have an important contract with the ministry of resource to supply office supplies, and also contract with several arts houses selling art supplies. This branch also does some publishing in the South, manufacturing printing presses and other materials as well as running several themselves. The Brehauts have a non-compete agreement with Sureau which stipulates they will not compete with the large house for publishing contracts, among other things. While the forests that once bordered their ancestral home were chopped down long ago, Brehaut still harvests most of its own wood for paper.

The western Brehauts specialize in manufacturing medical supplies (including cotton bandages, bedding, and clothing for patients, medicines, and surgical tools). Many of the materials used for the textiles portion of the enterprise are either grown on Brehaut plantations, or shorn from Brehaut sheep. They contract out of house to purchase the metals needed for surgical tools.

While the Brehauts have achieved great success in the economic part of their "Socioeconomic" rating, their ties in two dominances has made it difficult for them to make allies and earn social status as quickly as Houses who have a more solid base. This has led Brehaut to cling tightly to what alliances it does have, making it fiercely loyal to its allies, and unforgiving to its enemies. Allies who are more powerful than Brehaut, like Hasting, may find this house easy to manipulate, but houses of lesser power will find it unyielding.

Diplomacy
-Hasting [Ally] House Hasting and House Brehaut have been close for a long time. House Hasting is House Brehaut's most important ally, and the two houses have many marriages that link them together. This, combined with Brehaut's mercantile contacts in the West, means that Hasting has a vested interest in cultivating an alliance and assisting their bid for Luthadel.
-Sureau [Positive]/[Friendly] - While not formally allies, the Brehaut's maintanence of their publishing agreement with the Sureau's and their association with the Hastings has greatly improved relations between the houses.
-Venture - [Negative] - House Brehaut's close association with Hasting leads them to keep the Ventures at a distance, though no formal declaration has been made.
-Deveaux - [Negative] - House Brehaut's close association with Hasting leads them to keep the Deveauxs at a distance, though no formal declaration has been made.
-Elariel - [Unfriendly] -This feud began when the Brehauts breached a contract with Elariel. Elariel then began sponsoring several of Brehaut's competitors. Things escalated until Brehaut was all but driven out of the Western Dominance. Because of Brehaut's close relationship with Hasting, who Elariel is neutral with, the two houses are no longer enemies, but things remain unfriendly between them.
-Casuana - [Enemy] - As the Casuanas are a southern house, and Hasting's biggest rival in the weapons market, Brehaut has made a point of making Casuana their enemy as well.
-OTHER GREAT HOUSES - [Neutral]

Contracts
CANTON OF RESOURCE: Both branches of House Brehaut have several contracts with the Canton of Resource, supplying the ministry offices in both Austrex and Luthadel with office supplies (paper, folders, pens, pencils, ink, etc), as well as providing medical equipment (bandages, bedding, gowns, surgical tools, and medicines) for ministry run hospitals. These contracts are House Brehauts lifeblood, and losing any of them would be a serious blow.
CANTON OF DOCTRINE: The southern branch of House Brehaut also handles any overflow if the Canton of Doctrine in Autrex has important ministry documents to distribute.
HOUSE SUREAU: Houses Sureau and Brehaut have a non-compete agreement when it comes to publishing. This agreement stipulates that they will not compete with one another in the publishing field, and they also agree to refer potential clients to one another if interest is expressed in the other's jurisdiction.
HOUSE MARTEL: Like House Hasting, House Brehaut purchases the metals it uses in manufacturing publishing equipment and surgical tools from House Martel.

[NOTE: Hasting and Sureau stuff has been discussed, but may still need to be verified by KChan and Chaos)
