Vaden stands at around 6’2” with a broad shouldered build. From years of training, he is more muscular than the average nobleman, but it’s hard to tell under the perfectly pressed suits he tends to prefer. His hair is black, and always styled to be slicked back away from his face. He has small almond shaped eyes that are gray or blue depending on the day and shade of vest he has chosen. He is almost always clean-shaven.

Vaden can almost always be seen with an amused smirk on his face, as if he were laughing at some unsaid joke. He tends to stand with a straight back and his head held high. He is the perfect image of a nobleman, always impeccably dressed, complete with dueling cane. One look at Vaden, and you know he is a moneyed individual with impeccable taste and confidence in himself.

Vaden is the best at everything, or so he thinks. He is the picture of confidence and oily charm when in public, but when alone with the right person, his aggressive tendencies shine through more strongly. While he is charming when things go his way, he can quickly change tactics to intimidation or violence to get what he wants. He is less patient than he wants everyone to believe and is easily provoked to anger.

Vaden is not above using his Allomantic abilities to persuade someone to his way of thinking, he is careful about when he uses Allomancy, because the more indiscriminately it’s used to intimidate, the less effective it is - until he loses his temper.

Selfish and narcissistic, Vaden looks down on those of lower station than himself while at the same time resenting those who have already achieved a higher rank. He believes he is always right and entitled to success, and it frustrates him when the incompetence and inconsideration of others gets in his way.

Special Skills: Dueling, backhanded compliments, dancing. He has extensive knowledge of wine and prides himself on his (supposedly) impeccable palette.

Strengths: Vaden has a near predatory business sense, using the same keen observational skills that allow him to deliver devastating backhanded compliments to seek out and exploit weaknesses in the competition. This, coupled with his aptitude for figures, makes him a near-perfect heir for the Tremaine fortune and business.

Weaknesses: He is confident to a fault, and hates to ask for help from anyone. He has a hard time discerning when he has taken on too much work to handle, and makes climbing out from under the mountain of paperwork harder than it should be. His temper often gets the better of him, and he has a hard time reigning it in when he is provoked.

Vaden was born the only child and heir to Lord Howell and Lady Lydia Tremaine in the year 897. Tremaine was always a very proud house, hailing from Tremredare. The family claimed that the city was named for the family who contributed to its establishment. No one in the Western Dominance seemed to know the truth, but it was a source of pride for the long standing High House, and Vaden and his parents were certainly no exception to this rule.

As the only child of very proud and doting parents, Vaden was spoiled. Rotten. Growing up, when he wanted something his parents rarely said no. His father was often busy running the house, but Vaden spent most of his time with his mother, who was very protective of the young boy. She lost children before she gave birth to Vaden, so she considered her only son to be her miracle child. From a young age, Vaden knew he was special. He was told how important he was to the family and that he was going to grow up to run the house one day.

This self importance only grew when he Snapped. His parents had him beaten at the tender age of eight. Vaden was the first Allomancer in the direct line of Tremaine for generations and a Pewterarm. It didn’t take Vaden long to heal from his beating and when he did, his training began with the best tutors money could buy. For the next few years, Vaden’s progress in his training had everyone talking. He was hailed as a prodigy by his parents, and since no one in Tremredare wanted to cross the Tremaines (or simply didn’t care), the claims went unchallenged. It certainly didn’t hurt that they paid top boxing to tutors and trainers alike who would agree with their boasts, either.

As he grew up, the other nobles in his social class and age range flocked to him as a ring-leader of the group. He spent much of his time bullying his so-called friends for their boxings (not that he needed them) and anything else he happened to like that belonged to them. When they didn’t give him what he wanted, he would use pewter to take it by force. This put him at the top of his social ladder. As he got older this behavior bled over into other aspects of his life.

When he started attending balls he brought dates to most of them. He would ask a girl to dance with him at a ball, and then he would fixate on her, asking her to attend the next ball with him and inviting her to luncheon. tea. or to stroll the marketplace with him. They would always accept because of his social status in Tremredare. The more time he spent with a lady, the less they seemed to like him. They would always have something else to do or someone else to attend another ball with when he would ask them to attend with him again.

Vaden decided after a few failed courtships that none of them had been worth his time in the first place. They were all small time and they knew nothing of what it would be like to be Lady Tremaine. They didn’t deserve his attentions, and he would have to search for a lady that was. Just when Vaden was feeling like all of his prospects were drying up, Howell announced that they were moving to Luthadel.

In recent years, Tremaine has been trying to make a bid for Luthadel to ascend to Great House. With Vaden’s help and keen business sense on their side they made it relatively far in the process, but another house in the wine industry stole the better contracts and ascended first. Vaden was frustrated by their underhanded deals that must have gotten them the bid. From them on, Tremaine did what it could to undermine Fathvell.

In Luthadel, Vaden’s social life boomed. He had several successful dates with noblewomen, but without the usual feelings that they were avoiding him. He set his sights on a few, but things didn’t work out because they were courting other men, or their parents had arranged a marriage for them already, and there was nothing Vaden could do to change their minds. They were all from minor houses, and not really worth fighting for too fiercely.

Vaden also made an appearance in the competitive dueling arena in Luthadel. He had always been fond of dueling when he was in Tremredare, and he was an accomplished duelist. In one of the first competitions he entered he dueled Broderick Venture. Broderick’s skill was better than his own, but Vaden claimed that the sun had been in his eyes for most of the duel. Vaden still lost. He went home and trained more fervently, angry that he lost to anyone at all, but it was worse that it happened to be a Venture. He wanted to show the Venture boy where his place was, but instead he was humiliated.

He would not let that stand. So he challenged Broderick to a rematch. Every time he lost, he came back a few days later with renewed vigor and tried again to fight Broderick, turning it into a rivalry.

Meanwhile, the rivalry between Tremaine and Fathvell was hurting Tremaine’s business. They were losing contracts left and right because they were standing opposed to the house that was everyone’s new favorite. Knowing that to fix their contracts they would have to end their petty rivalry, Vaden was sent to repair relations with the newly ascended Great House.

On Vaden’s first trip to Keep Fathvell, he met the daughter of Lord Fathvell, Eliza. She was not like the other noblewomen in Luthadel. She seemed more outspoken and headstrong from the short conversation they shared. She was a perfect match. While he was also trying to repair the relationship between their houses, it wouldn’t hurt to make friends with and begin courting one of the most desirable bachelorettes in Luthadel. She didn’t seem to return his feelings, but she would come around.

After all, Vaden Tremaine always gets what he wants.
