Standing at around 5’10”, Darian is not much to be looked at. He is thin and has no muscle mass to be noted. He wears his light brown hair short and often styled so that it is parted and combed neatly to the side. Occasionally, he will let it go wild mostly for days where the only people who will see him are related to him. He has pronounced cheekbones and thin lips.

Darian usually presents himself in a very professional way, no matter where he is. He wears nobleman’s suits, and jackets in the latest fashions, and puts a great deal of effort into his appearance. When he is spending a day around the Keep, he tends to leave a cravat out of the equation.

Darian has always been quiet and reserved. He prefers the company of a good book to that of any person. He has learned to tolerate people, but he almost never likes social situations. It has been said that he is better with numbers and words than he is with discerning people’s emotions. He is overwhelmed when surrounded by large crowds of people. Balls tend to make him feel trapped. He does not enjoy them, but he realizes that they are a necessary part of every young noble’s life.

Similarly to his distaste for people, he does not like conflict. He wishes that everyone would get along, or find a way to work out their differences peacefully. He abhors the use of violence to “solve” problems. This aversion to violence has brought him to his chosen profession as a mediator for his house in any conflict that arises.

Darian is extremely thorough, dependable, and responsible. Once he sets his mind to something it rarely goes unfinished. He also has a strong sense of duty. He does not put off tasks just because they are distasteful, instead he gets them out of the way first, so he can move onto the more enjoyable aspects of life. He would do almost anything -- save resorting to violence -- to protect his family and their current position as a Great House. Above most other behaviors, greed irritates Darian the most. It often over-complicates and sets back negotiations.

Special Skills: Arithmetic, Accounting, Mediation, Reading,

Strengths: Getting to the heart of an argument and diffusing tense situations are among Darian’s chief strengths. Although he does not like raised voices, if he is in a business or a mediation setting, he’s much more likely to be able to calm the situation down before it results to violence.

He is also very gifted in arithmetic and with numbers in general.

Weaknesses: Darian’s disinclination toward violence keeps him from learning to fight or duel. He spends no time in the training yard. He is easily intimidated by a larger force.

While Darian’s social anxiety does not prevent him from interacting with and making friends with other nobles, he does feel drained after being around people for a long time. It makes him less inclined to put himself into those situations if he can avoid it. He remembers numbers better than he remembers faces.

He also loves sweets.

Darian Casuana was born in 896 to Irene and Ansel Casuana. They lived in Lansing City where Ansel was the foreman one of the Casuana forges. His parents had been trying for years to have children, and Darian had come sooner than expected. It was doubtful that he was going to live much past the infancy. Irene was dedicated to making sure that her only son -- and probably the only one she would ever have -- lived.

Darian was very small as a baby, and all through his youth he was smaller than the other boys he played with in the city. He spent a lot of time getting picked on by other noble boys, but he never let that bother him. He knew instinctively that they were just trying to show off for one another and instead of sinking to their level to retaliate, he simply found other friends and spent more time alone than with his peers.

When Darian was eight, his father had him beaten. He Snapped a smoker, and began his training once he made a full recovery. He was scared for weeks, though. Terrified that he was going to be beaten again until his father calmly explained to him that it was just to test for Allomancy. It still took several more weeks for Darian to stop looking over his shoulder when he was alone to make sure that no one was going to corner him and attack him when he wasn’t paying attention.

Darian spent the next several years engrossing himself in his studies. He had a lot of fun learning to use his Allomantic powers, and spend a great deal of time using them. At the same time he was expected to learn history, arithmetic, and many other subjects that young noble boys were expected to learn. He excelled in arithmetic and eventually paired it down to just that and history to study.

When he was twelve, his father was killed. Ansel’s job put him in direct conflict with the Hasting presence in Lansing City. Ansel was the subject of some violence between the houses, resulting in his death. Darian was devastated. He never saw the point in solving problems with violence, and this incident just exacerbated that ideal. He was old enough to realize what had happened, but he could not understand why.

He thought that life would be different, but it didn’t turn out that way. His father had always been working, and Darian was mostly left alone with his books and his training. He continued on and learned more about that conflict that ended his father’s life as he got older. He went over and over the details, trying to figure out how it could have been solved if only they had stopped being greedy and prejudiced. This fixation on his father’s death provided two things. The first was an insatiable need to solve the puzzle presented in the case. The second was that he wanted to spend his life helping other people avoid the same fate his father suffered. The only way he could do that was by learning the law, and learning to be a mediator for his house. He exhausted the library’s books in a matter of months, and quickly realized that he would never complete his goal if he were to stay in Lansing City.

For years after that Irene was overprotective of him and didn’t let him leave her sight. It was not until Darian expressed an interest in moving to Luthadel to study that it really came out into the open that his mother was sheltering him too much. He was almost seventeen before he got up the courage to tell his mother his plans.

She protested up until he had his bags packed and a canal barge waiting for him. He was going to travel to Luthadel whether she liked it or not. It was the only thing he had ever truly wanted. He didn’t want to live in the city, but what he wanted was the access to a true scholar’s library where he could learn as much as he could. He wanted to spend time learning the law and helping mediate negotiations. He wanted to put his knowledge of conflict to use.

For the last five years, Darian has been ingratiating himself with Luthadel, and trying to keep a strong focus on his studies, while still maintaining a social life, as much as that pained him to do. He trains as a mediator and sits in on business negotiations when he is called upon. Darian has proven especially useful for new contract negotiations and anywhere that tensions run higher than normal.

He still enjoys the company of his books over the sometimes cruel social structures of Luthadel.

UGH! You got to Eddie Redmayne before me! Sooo jealous.

Anyways, he's definitely approved. Can't wait to see him at a negotiation table. And put into pending until the RP sample is up :)
