Nessa nodded, then made her way up to her room, where she spotted the extra clothes laid out neatly on her bed. As soon as the door shut behind her she peeled off her wet clothes, tossed them on the floor where the blankets had been - the women must have taken those with them when they left after bringing the clothes - and tried on one of the new outfits she had been given.

It was without a doubt the nicest thing she had ever worn; sure, it was plain and nondescript like all skaa clothing, but it was well-made, and the fabric felt nice against her skin. She hadn't realized how scratchy her other clothes really were until she had something to compare them to. But she wouldn't have to wear those anymore. At least, not unless Perrin decided to throw more water on her.

She was especially glad that the women had seen fit to give her a shirt and pants; she had been half afraid she'd be given a dress and expected to fight in it.

It wasn't long before she made it back downstairs to where Perrin was waiting, having dried off for the most part. Except for her hair, of course.

"Okay," she told him. "Ready."

"Not quite," he said, tossing her a few vials of pewter, "Drink one, save the others for later. Try and keep up now, Sweets," he said with a wink, then took off out the kitchen door into an alley. His pace was faster a normal man's run, but wasn't so abnormally fast that people stopped to watch him go by. Though, once they were more out in the open, he intended to push himself to see how much Nessa could handle.

Nessa did as she was told, downing one vial of pewter and stuffing the rest in her pockets before taking off after Perrin.

He'd gotten a bit of a head start on her, but it wasn't long before she had caught up with him, burning just enough pewter to help her match his pace. Just because she had all these vials of the stuff didn't mean she should waste it.

"So," she asked as they ran, "Why do you call me Sweets, anyways?"

Perrin shrugged as they ran, "No reason. Seems to fit your personality quite well, though," he laughed, "Everyone needs a good nickname. I'm still trying to come up with a good one for our friend Ignas. But when I do, it'll be incredible," he smirked a little.

Nessa frowned, trying to figure out how "Sweets" fit her at all. The first time he had ever seen her, it was when she was throwing furniture around and attacking people. Perrin must have a very odd idea of what the word "sweet" meant, Nessa decided.

"Ignas?" she asked. "You mean the obligator, right? Doesn't look like you two like each other very much."

Perrin nodded with a smile, "We don't, but that's no reason why he can't have a nickname," he slowed his run as they approached the crowd of people at the gates of Luthadel. He and Nessa would have to walk for just a few moments so as not to draw too much attention from the guards.

He glanced at the girl, "How long have you been able to burn pewter?" The pair shuffled with the crowd towards the looming wall, waiting with the rest of the skaa to pass through.

Nessa extinguished her pewter as soon as they returned to a normal, sustainable pace, and paused thoughtfully at Perrin's question.

"It's hard to say for sure," she explained at last. "It was years ago, when I was little, so I'm not sure how old I was. I tripped and fell, and got in some nobleman's way. He didn't like it, and beat me until another skaa pulled me away. That's the first time I remember using it."

"So you've had 'years' of practice then. That's good. The natural instincts you've developed will hopefully just enhance what I'm going to teach you; though, that probably won't be much," he eyed some of the soldiers at the gate with dislike as they passed through the gate.

Once they were out of the crowd and into the open again, Perrin smirked at Nessa, "Little bit further to go, Sweets, then we'll see what you've got." Perrin took off at a much faster pace this time, flaring his pewter and pushing his limits. It would be interesting to see just how strong Nessa was with the metal. Her years of burning it probably equaled his own, depending on when she had snapped. Though, time spent burning the metal did not necessarily mean that the ability would increase. Some people were just stronger than others and there was no getting around it.

What the....?

Nessa growled, and took off after Perrin at a dead run. She still had to keep her Pewter burning hot and fast, but she did have a few things on her side. For one thing, she had long legs, which made running easier. And for another, she had had years of experience outrunning angry targets. Even without this strange power, Nessa was not easily winded.

Her feet pounded out a rhythm below her as she matched pace with Perrin, arms pumping in time and long hair streaming out behind her. She couldn't talk while maintaining this pace, but she wasn't about to let him leave her behind.

Nessa was too stubborn for that.

Perrin grinned in approval. So she could keep up, now it was time to test her reflexes. He stopped abruptly, his enhanced sense of balance that came from burning pewter was the only thing that kept him up right. After quickly stooping to pick up a boxing sized stone, he 'gently' lobbed it at Nessa, careful to aim below her face; wouldn't want to put a mark on her pretty features after all if she didn't react quickly enough.

Nessa's eyes widened as Perrin suddenly came to a halt. She skidded on the ground, trying to follow suit, and she was just about to make it when he hurled a stone at her. Instinct took over and she ducked down, but unfortunately, not even pewter could save her balance at the angle she was falling.

Nessa hit the ground with a grunt, managing to catch herself on her forearms. They must have gotten scraped a little from the way they stung, but it wasn't too bad. The pewter did help her recover, though, and she steadied herself with one hand but stayed low to the ground, ready as she ever would be to spring into action again.

When Nessa fell, Perrin couldn't help but laugh a little. At least she hadn't hurt herself that he could see. He nodded with approval when she recovered, looking like an animal ready to pounce, or run away. "Excellent job, Sweets," he turned away from her, heading to a small clump of trees nearby. He broke two dueling cane length branches off of the trees and brought them back to where Nessa stood.

He glanced back in the direction of Luthadel, pleased with the distance they had run. The city was still in view, but they were far enough away from the city, and the road as well, that no one would see them 'practicing' and come intrude. "How much experience do you have with a dueling cane?"

"Uhhh." Nessa blinked at the branch and accepted it hesitantly, giving it a little twirl to see how it felt.

"I have practice running away from them, if that's what you mean. But as far as using them... The only weapons I ever used are my hands and feet," she explained simply. "And my elbows. And knees. And sometimes my teeth. And random things I pick up. You know," she added with a grin, "like tables. Or buckets."

Perrin chuckled; it was refreshing to be around someone that had a sense of humor, or at least one that he could understand and relate to. Any joke that Ignas told tended to involve fire, or people dying, or both. Depressing and disturbing all around. "I have a feeling that bucket is going to come back and haunt me, but," he raised the branch/cane, "We have work to do. I'm not really too concerned with your technique today, you'll have teachers to worry about that. Right now, we're just going to spar. You need to get a feel for using pewter in a fight that could last a long time, although, depending on how you choose to use it, the fight could be quick as well."

He took a few steps back, shifting his body into a more defensive than aggressive pose for the time being. Perrin grinned at Nessa, "Ready when you are, Sweets."

Sparring? She'd seen soldiers doing that before. So they were supposed to fight, right? That seemed a little unfair to Nessa at first, but since Perrin was supposed to be teaching her stuff like this, maybe he would go a little easier on Nessa than he would in a real fight. She hoped so; he'd been able to stop her far too easily last night.

"So we're supposed to fight, right?" she asked. "Like this?"

A quick burst of pewter gave her a boost to spring forward at a quick speed, and then she immediately brought it down to just low enough of a burn to help her keep her balance during her charge. It was only when she was sure she was close enough that she swung, giving her allomancy another burst as she used her entire body - leaning forward with her momentum, turning her hips first, and then using that built-up tension in her muscles like a released bowstring - and swung for Perrin's head. She'd be able to stop it if she wanted to - probably - but she doubted she'd have to. This was someone she'd have to go all-out against just to have a chance.

A grin spread across Perrin's face as Nessa jumped into action. He was impressed by how quick she moved, and flared pewter as he jumped away from her swing. The whoosh of air he felt from the swinging branch passing by him was a little surprising. She had been moving faster than he had thought. Perhaps he needed to start overestimating her, rather than underestimating. Getting hit by one of these branches wouldn't hurt all that badly, but he didn't want to be sporting any bruises on the side of his head.

Perrin's muscles were taunt as he turned his body back to face Nessa. He raised his branch and took a few swings at her, making certain they were easy enough for her to block, or at least dodge.

Attacking, Nessa could handle. She was used to that. Run away as fast as you could. If you had to fight, hit fast enough and hard enough the first time so you could steal the first chance to escape. It had kept her alive all these years, and given her plenty of practice attacking.

Unfortunately, the fact that her strategy had worked all these years combined with the lack of anyone to actually train with meant that Nessa's defensive abilities - other than that fight or flight strategy - were rather.... lacking, to say the least.

Still, it seemed Perrin knew what he was doing after all; his counterattack was enough to challenge Nessa's abilities, but it didn't overwhelm her. She managed to (very awkwardly) block his first few blows, applying pewter when necessary but otherwise keeping it on a very low burn - or off entirely, sometimes - and finally just jumped to the side to avoid the last of them.

As soon as she was clear Nessa sprang back into the fray, with a similar attack to her opening move but coming from the other side. She also added something she saved for tougher opponents: a knee, aimed at the gut, set to follow immediately behind her swing.

Though her technique was definitely lacking, Perrin was pleased that she managed to block each of his swings, or at the very least, dodge them. He turned quickly, to receive her attack, and this time easily knocked the branch away with his own. The girl's knee, however, he was not quick enough to avoid. Perrin managed to turn sideways enough that it was not a direct blow to his stomach, but the force of it still knocked some air out of him.

He was torn between frowning and smiling at the fact that she had landed a hit on him. Either way, Perrin went on the offensive again, this time pressing forward with a little more force.

After barraging Nessa with blows for a short time, he leapt to her left side, sweeping the branch towards the back of her legs in the hope of knocking her off of her feet.

Nessa was surprised - and somewhat gratified - that she'd actually managed to land a blow. She didn't know if he'd let her do it or not, but it made her feel at least a little more capable.

That is, until he came back at her even more forcefully than before. She wasn't used to anyone fighting back like this before, and she had barely held off his last barrage. And though she managed - barely - to keep from getting hit, her so-called 'defense' at this point looked more like glorified flailing than any sort of well-practiced technique.

The real test came when he tried to sweep her legs out from under her. Her first instinct was to jump over the branch, so she flared her pewter and sprang up as high as she could. Unfortunately, she either didn't jump high enough or failed to pick her legs up out of the way, because the branch caught the back of her ankle, throwing her off balance and causing her to fall.

So much for that idea.

Chuckling, Perrin reached down to offer Nessa assistance in getting back up. "Considering the fact that you have no clue what you're doing with a weapon, you did quite well, Sweets. I'm impressed," he tossed his branch aside and dusted off his hands, "A few weeks of lessons and we'll be able to have a real sparring match."

He turned back to face Luthadel, which was a good distance off, "I think you deserve an apology for last night," he said looking back over his shoulder to Nessa, "Most people wouldn't have stuck around after having all that information dumped on them... and after having an Inquisitor crash the party," Perrin chuckled again, a little bitterly this time though.

"So, consider this your apology, Sweets," he said with a wink.
