Character Information
Name: Aveline Sureau
Age: 23
Type: Noble
Gender: Female
Occupation: Heiress to House Sureau
Marital Status: Single

Type of Powers: None
Metals Used: N/A
Degree of Skill: N/A

Hair: Long, pale gold in color, falling in gentle curves to the middle of her back. Always worn up when in public and usually in private as well.
Eyes: Very dark gray (almost black), slightly tilted.
Height: ~5'9"
Weight: ~130 lbs.
Voice: Aveline's voice is typically light and musical, with pure, clear tones. However, she can sound quite authoritative when she chooses to.
Overall Appearance: Always calm, cool, and in control, Aveline is the very image of the confidence and poise expected of the Sureau heir. Her fine, delicate features are always composed in a mask of serene grace. Never so much as a hair or a stitch out of place, she carries herself proud and straight-backed, but her presence is nowhere near as overbearing as her father's. She usually wears gowns of a more conservative, classic cut, but has them tailored to compliment her slender but well-proportioned figure.

Special Skills: Leadership, organization, planning, dancing, conversation, infuriating her sisters without meaning to
Strengths: Ever her father's daughter, Aveline has been raised to take her father's place at the head of Sureau. Under his guidance she has developed into a promising heir, fully capable of managing any task given her under her father's watchful eye. She is also quite the socialite, finding a genuine thrill in a lively conversation or a particularly engaging debate.
Weaknesses: Aveline is determined to maintain her father's favor, which has given her somewhat of a complex to the point that she will purposely alter her behavior just to please him. His approval of her, meanwhile, has caused her to believe that she is always right, which can translate into overconfidence and vanity.

As expected of the Golden Child of House Sureau, Aveline's outer personality is calm and serene. Despite the hot blood her House is known for, Aveline is always in control of herself. She is, in her mind, the balancing force to her House's passions, and strives to use her level head and keen sense of logic to the benefit of Sureau. She has a remarkable ability to keep her cool even in the face of her sisters' rebellions and tantrums, even going so far as to try to soothe their outbursts and direct their seemingly endless energies to more constructive goals, like making their House better for all of them. Her encouragements often fall on deaf ears, however, much to her disappointment.

Despite her mercy for her sisters, however, Aveline does not have much patience for failure. She is a stern administrator, and mistakes are met with swift but fair consequences. She has very high standards for others, but the ones for herself are even higher, soaring to near impossible heights in the depths of her mind. Her intolerance of failure is internalized as well, and she constantly pushes herself to meet the harsh idealization of herself that she strives to become. Any fits of self-doubt or anxiety are swiftly and ruthlessly stamped down and ignored.

Left to her own devices, Aveline very much enjoys reading, dancing, and surrounding herself with interesting company. She is an avid conversationalist, and delights in a good discussion or verbal debate. This is obviously a great help in her dealings as heir, but she does truly enjoy it for its own sake. One of her greatest regrets is that she can't easily have such discussions with her sisters, but though she attempts to reach out to them when possible, she can't let it distract from her real job: her duty to Sureau.

As the first child of Stefan and Emma Sureau, and with no male heir born to the couple, Aveline is ? and has been from the moment of her birth ? heir apparent to House Sureau. She was raised accordingly, and flourished under the lavish attentions of her parents. Though Stefan did want a son eventually, he also wanted a daughter, and Aveline ? good-tempered, pretty, and intelligent ? quickly became her father's pet. He adored her, and she him, and she quickly attached herself to his side.

It was during her time spent following her father around that first introduced Aveline to the world of business and administration. It interested her far more than the empty politicking most girls were raised for, and it wasn't long before she was begging her father to let her help him. And he agreed. When not busy with her studies, Aveline became Stefan's personal errand-runner, taking every opportunity to learn about what he did while she worked under him.

She was six years old when her mother died. Being the oldest, and most capable of understanding what had happened, it was to Aveline that the burden fell of comforting her father. Though she missed her mother dearly, she could see her father's grief, and her sisters were too little to understand. And so Aveline forced her own grief aside in order to be her father's comfort. It became the first time of what would become many that she forced down negativity and strode forward without allowing herself to feel.

Life continued as normal for some time, or as normal as it could be after such a loss. Aveline continued her studies, and began to take on more and more responsibilities under her father's leadership. Since her father would obviously not be producing a male heir anytime soon, Aveline was legally established as her father's successor, and her work for him became even more important.

It was around this time that she was beaten to test for Allomantic abilities. And although she failed to Snap, Stefan ? who had someone else administer the beating because he could not bear to harm Aveline with his own hands ? comforted her with assurances that he didn't care one way or another about her lack of Allomancy. This helped Aveline get over her disappointment in herself to a certain extent, but she still felt as though it were somehow her fault she hadn't been born an Allomancer. But her father was just happy that she had survived, so Aveline put it behind her. Another piece of negativity smashed down and forgotten.

She was ten years old when she accidentally discovered her mother the kandra. She was bringing some papers to Stefan's suite as part of her help with his work, but when she opened the door, she saw her dead mother relaxing in the sitting room. Terrified and confused, a shrieking, sobbing Aveline tore through the Keep until she found her father and threw herself into his arms. It was several minutes before he calmed her down enough that he could actually understand her when she told him what she saw, but when she finally managed to get her message across, he comforted her and offered her an explanation. Papa missed Mama, he told her, and wanted to talk to her again. And so he hired a creature called a kandra to pretend to be Mama. He told her of the wondrous powers the kandra possessed to mimic any person, and that since most little girls her age couldn't understand what they did, he had hidden the kandra from Aveline and her sisters. He didn't want to scare or confuse them, he told her.

This unnerved Aveline, but she accepted her father's explanation. After all, if her Papa was lonely, and he could hire someone to pretend to be Mama, and if that helped him feel better, it was a perfectly reasonable thing to do, even if it was scary. But Papa had tried to protect them, had tried to keep them from being frightened by the kandra. Aveline promised to keep the secret, like a big girl should, and from then on avoided her fake mother whenever possible. She never forgot the initial terror of meeting the kandra in her father's rooms, but she squashed it down and moved on. She had to be a big girl, after all. So she pushed it aside and forged on.

Over the years, Aveline grew and flourished. She excelled in her studies, lived for the chances she got to help her father run the House, and even embraced her etiquette training. After all, she had to be a proper Lady if she was to be a suitable successor for her House, and ? more importantly ? for her beloved father.

She debuted into Luthadel society at the age of fifteen, and instantly began making friendships and connections. Over the years, she flourished both in the social and business arenas, deftly weaving relationships with other Houses through their young daughters and sons while taking over supervision of some of Sureau's business ventures in their entirety. Among other things, she oversees their publishing, textile, and food and wine trades. She has yet to have a serious relationship, because she doesn't see the point: when the time comes, she will marry for politics, though given the choice, she would prefer someone whose rank wouldn't interfere with her succession, when the time comes for her to ascend. She can't be bothered with silly things like romance or power struggles.

After all, Aveline Sureau has a House to run.
