The Lord Ruler's perfect capital city, Luthadel, is doing the impossible: rebelling. Skaa half-breeds are being taught the power of Allomancy, something that the Lord Ruler's obligators said only existed in the nobility. The enslaved skaa, with their murderous benefactor, now fight back against a living god's oppression.

So, the Inquisition was formed. The nobles begin to fear assassination from all sides. The times of nobility Mistborn killing each other are over. The Steel Inquisitors look for aristocrat traitors and insurgent skaa, and the skaa try with all their strength to merely survive. The Lord Ruler's perfect Final Empire is slowly devolving into chaos.

"It's a pity you have to miss such an important social event. I hope your business won't keep you away from Luthadel long, or at the very least that ir proves worth your time," she replied automatically. She couldn't imagine missing this ball -- everyone was attending. They came to a stop just outside a shop with a sign displaying a needle and shears. "I'm afraid this is my destination. It was lovely speaking with you, Lord Venture. You made my morning less.....mundane."

Perrin bowed. "It's been a pleasure, Lady Jessica. I hope your visit with your tailor is just as lovely as this morning is." He smiled at her again, then after another short bow, continued walking down the street, leaving Lady Marsdale behind.

He continued on this path till he had gone around a bend and was out of sight. Then, with a crooked smile on his lips, Perrin turned down a side street and began to make his way back to the docks of canal street. There was a worker there that certainly had some information valuable to Perrin regarding a late shipment.

Jessica smiled as Lord Venture walked away. She made a mental note to have her Terrismen inquire about a Lord Perrin Venture. She didn't like being caught off guard like that and she was determined it wouldn't happen again. She couldn't afford to be in the dark when it came to the great families -- even their extended relatives could be allies...or enemies. It had been an odd enough conversation, she supposed. Common gossip, weather and balls and such. How did the higher noble ladies stand talking about that and nothing else all day? Jessica just couldn't understand it. "Wait here," she commanded her escort. "Be ready when I am done, I'll want to go straight home and it's a long ride. See that the horses are refreshed while I am inside. Take their bridles off, give them a chance to rest and water them."

"Yes, my lady," the head of her bodyguards said.

Satisfied that she was only moderately late Jessica pulled open the door and stepped inside.
